  • Hello,

I am asking if is it possible to install (for fun but not only) a latest linux lightweight distro like debian, ubuntu, mint or else in latest receivers like zgemma h8.2h or h7 ?

at least in server mode, without gui interface.

if it is possible, linux must be installed in an external storage because flash is too small, but I think to leave flash intact also, remove the media and reboot to "usual" images.

the above zgemmas above that I own have usb ports and h7 has a sata port.

time ago, I installed a normal image to usb pendrive and start dm800se from it, not using internal flash. Dm800se is too old, I am not interested loosing time with it. But modern STBs are much more power, even more that raspberry pi 3, which can take latest ubuntu.

I agreed that actually, I have not idea of first steps for this purpose, assuming that's possible.

for zgemma h8.2h, I noticed a four pin port in the board, and thread anywhere, explained that they are ttl pins so I can make a serial com connection, plus ethernet, hdmi and usb where can attach a keyboard.

    Any help is very appreciated

    thanks in advance

  • The main issue here, will always be the RAM available on the box that you cannot shortcut,

The Flash, you can always with sata/sdd/hdd/usb, booting on a larger memory device than the built in Flash (64Mb on olders boxes)... but the RAM is definitely the bottleneck...
