Life expectancy for Duo support

  • Hi,

Bought Duo this morning £269 delivered . Now I've been told on other forum that I should have got an Uno as its newer with better chip set, memory etc. But I wanted unit with twin tuners so opted for the old Duo.
Its been suggested on this other forum that the Duo only has a short support life because the Duo2 is coming out soon.

I still see bouquets and plugins for the older Enigma 1 sets, so can't see that support for the Duo will disappear for a while.

    What's peoples opinion here?

  • Support is driven by the need for support, and unless we all decide to throw out our VU+ Duo receivers, then I can see this receiver continuing in its respectable longevity. There is progression, but this progression is often slow, and sometimes things don't take off. The Vu+ Duo might be getting on a bit in terms of specs, but it is still seen as a benchmark.

If I take a while to respond, you can see why.....

    Thanks mate.
Assumed this was the case, as I still see old Enigma 1 boxes getting some element of support, here and elsewhere, and after all the Duo2 is also Enigma 2 based like the Duo isn't it, so Evolution, not Revolution.

its nice that others think the same as I do.
It was a close call on the Duo vs Uno. but in the end £269 for the twin tuners won the day for the Duo.

Seems my new baby is getting diss'd even before the stork has delivered it. :too_sad:

  • The thing is people always want to better thier self and thier setup, but you should get ample enjoyment out your duo ive just bought one and will probably upgrade in time but it wont be an immediate step

  • I think you have made a good purchase, I bought one a few months back after luckily winning a Solo on here and being converted to VU+.

I've got to admit it is a fantastic box with great support, I'm sure as the above post suggest support will slow down and may not be the first to get the update firmware but i'm sure we are talking hours not days/weeks before update are available for Duo 1 over 2 they will be there for sometime yet m8.

I'm really looking forward to the Vu+ Duo2, but I wont get rid of my Vu+ Duo 1 it will have to migrate to the back room and my DM800HD original will have to be sold off.

    enjoy your new box buddy.

Currently using VU+ Duo, VU+ Uno & DM800 all original don't do clones!

  • Support will continue until the new Duo2 gets a good market lead when that will happen is anyone's idea, but expect teams such as Blackhole to put evertyhing into the Duo2 when it comes out seeing as they are the official image makers for VU.

Also look at it this way if the clone market keeps going then expect to find what happened with the DM800 that the clones got patched newer images than what the originals did.
