Just bought a second hand DM 7080 HD, I need advice abt DVB-T tuner and image

Hi guys,

just bought a second hand DM 7080HD with three DVB-S2 tuners. Price tag was very attractive so I was acting in hurry.

The missing detail is that no DVB-T2 tuner is included which is something that I need before replacing my aging DM8000.

Looking around for a such tuner but I cant figure out what is the perfect fit for my case. I have seen few models with dual DVB-T2 tuner, some with DVB-C/T2 or some other with triple tuner with a cost higher than the price of receiver itshelf.

1) what is the modest model number/label that I need for having terrestrial reception without extra features and where I can find it?

If I'll transplant the DVB-T from the existing DM8000 it will OK (if same connector type, ATM I have no idea how it is)

2) what is the source of images for this receiver? I'm user of openpli images for years but as noticed this model in not included in their official support list.

What is the most popular on stability matters and add on?

From what I can retrieve from web, main provider DIGEA Greece is using DVB-T with MPEG-4 (also known as H.264/AVC) and ERT Greece MPEG-4 (no further details).

By the way, I had a look on DVB-T tuner of my DM8000 and recognized as Philips TU1216 (DVB-T)

yeap, with DM8000 tuner is fine ...

so what is the conclusion about the transplant of the tuners?

could be fitted to DM7080 slot ? if fitted then will work?

Second question was about images, where I should look? openpli which is my favorite is not supporting this receiver

the 7080 is on the way, meanwhile I had a look in the tuners info of existing DM8000.

dvb-t tuner is Philips TU1216 (DVB-T), the terrestrial version of your dvb-c tuner!!!

At least I should try before buy.

Any idea from where I should buy?

this is an update!

Just received the DM 7080, initially build in tuners weren't working due to daughter board slight shift and disconnection.

Afterwards updated rescue firmware and installed http://openpli9xstar.japhar.ne…star-dm7080.rootfs.tar.xz

Then removed the add-on dvb-s2 tuner and installed the Philips TU1216 (DVB-T) which is supported and working perfectly.

I'm impressed from the smooth scanning and boot up time!

Issues!

No have sound form any source, dvb-s2, dvb-t, nothing at all!

If I'll fwd the stream file (example ORF 2 EUROPE HD.m3u8) to my pc and open it with vlc then I have sound from the stream in my pc!

Should I stay with this image and looking around for a solution? should I try something else? is this a hardware issue?

installed openATV 7.6 and the result is the same, no sound and the X mark when pressing the yellow button is there!

Now testing in media player to see if i can get sound..

As it is a second hand item always there is a suspicion for damaged hardware...

Edit: I have tried three more spare HDMI cables, at two different ports of the TV/monitor and not having sound. Same cables with ET9000, Fire stick Tv are OK.

I have reloaded official DM image, Media player can see mp3 files, which are playing ( I can see the counter) without sound at TV/monitor

Oh, man! I'm facing crazy situation with this box.

HDMI matter was related with HDCP, somehow cant talk to this monitor with that cable but same cable is perfectly fine with a newer TV!

For the time being is connected with a HDMI 2.0 cable to the TV of salon and the sound is passing through.

The problem with built in tuner reappeared on relocation and clean flash of openpli Jafar's version. Dismantled, inspected for loose contact but no luck.

Same situation with openATV 7.6....

Really, I have lost it! I can recall such mess only with DGS IP9000 long time ago...

Need ideas for testing

PS the present layout is 2 x build in tuners (not visible), 1x 4505, 1xTU1216 (DVB-T)

For sure its not a matter of image, I have tried every available image in clean instal mode, in backup-restore mode with no luck.

During weekend, I'll try removing the dvb-t tuner for the beginning and then even the other dvb-s2 add in tuner.

I have to remove the daughter board of the build in tuners for visual inspection. When received, that board wasn't in place and I was facing same situation but I was focused at the sound issue ...

Help! this receiver is driving me crazy!

After disconnection of antennas and removing both (add in) slot tuners the receiver was rebooted and

1. both build in tuners are visible and operational.

2. then adding the dvb-t tuner in slot C, is fine!

3. then adding one more dvb-s2 tuner in slot B, still fine!

Note, this is with original Dreambox OS

Now reinstalling the Openpli 9x, reverting with results but the thing is that I cant reproduce a situation, its random and chaotic!

Update with conclusion!

After installation of openpli 9.x (jafar) and various reboots everything was fine and I went for sleep putting the receiver in standby mode.

This morning, turned it on just to realize that build in tuners gone missing (see attachment)!

While the dismantling of yesterday I had noticed a button, on the main board labeled as "reset" and I was thinking about it.

I took a long pin and with assistance of a strong flashlight I succeeded to push it, then the receiver rebooted and all tuners re-appeared and functioned properly! (see second attachment)

Now the critical question?

what is causing the malfunction(obviously in software level)?

my old tuner of Philips TU1216 (DVB-T) which otherwise is working perfectly?

the number of four tuners onboard are too much?

what is the purpose of this "reset button"?

is there any battery for retaining setting (as DM8000 has) that should be replaced?

something else?
