a friend has sent me a N line to test. do i just put the line in the cccam config folder just as i would a C line?

Yes, just copy/paste it, like c-lines.

It shows offline or online in CS Studio ? You don't have to choose between n-line and c-line, you can keep both of them in your cfg.
N-line works with all cccam versions, but from 2.1.4 and up you must put 1 at the end of it, so cccam can see it as hop 1.
