ubuntu server from scratch

  • I have decided start afresh so I have installed ubuntu server and done all upgrades.

Last time I installed proftpd to enable ftp access and such, is this the best way of enabling ftp access (and ultimately SSH), or is there a better or more efficient way in which to enable access from another device?

I know the oscam/cccam auto install script configures them all, but how do you get the script etc on there in the first place?

  • I never installed proftpd on my ubuntu and i had no problem accessing it to transfer files and scripts.
You can install ssh from ubuntu terminal and then connect from another p.c. Don't forget to change root password first.

  • Ive pretty much sorted all the problems out, but this one is puzzling me, oscam starts with server boot, and I can stop oscam from running

    Code
    killall -9 oscam

But I can't get oscam to restart using the command

    Code
    oscam -b

even if I attach SUDO to the front, I thought it might have been a scope thing, so I went to the directory /usr/local/bin

and tried to run the command but still the same result.

  • Nevermind its not essential, I have oscam running and upto date thats the main thing -

Ive installed the omnikey drivers as per this thread - http://linuxsat-support.com/li…key-readers-linux-pc.html

But for some reason, my card(s) are showing as off no entitlements, I had it working in the duo and these are the same oscam configs. Ive probably missed something with trying to rush it, I might just start again, when I have more patience because ive had enough of this cursed card lol

  • Ok ive checked the configs against what I setup in the duo, and ive also tried with just one reader, even without a card in the omnikey viewing the oscam page still shows the same steps.

Maybe its best I try again?

  • I suspected that I hadnt installd omnikey properly, but I reinstalled ubuntu anyway as I would have preferred the location of oscam to be in /usr/local/bin (in keeping with the tutorials in case I needed to refer to something else later).

and used the automated cccam/oscam install script for ubuntu, as I didnt have problems with omnikey lasttime so I did that attempted to upgrade oscam to a recent version and got the segmentation error again (which I didn't get using the Debian auto install method).

  • I read something on the OSCAM board about it being a GCC issue and not an strictly speaking an oscam issue.

Where did you get the latest version from ill try an earlier one although i am restricted how far back I can go, due to the compatibility with my card.

  • You need to run oscam with the recovery process, to be able to restart..

    You can do this by:

    oscam -b -r 2

  • I don't understand what you mean, because I am getting a segmentation error I need to use recovery mode, or?

What I would ultimately like to do is run my CS Link card, in my server, and although the latest version is suppose to fully support my card, I have yet to see anyone using any version other than the modded version mentioned in this thread -

    Code
    http://linuxsat-support.com/oscam-support/18067-cs-link-4.html

My Webinfo has never looked the same, as posted in this thread, I will try the recovery mode mentioned above, and see if it I still get the segmentation error.

The amount of time I have spent, on trying to get this to work, is obscene, so any clarification or help you can give would be very grately received.

  • Ok, multiple problems..

First, that command i posted is only to properly start oscam, with the option to restart it from the webgui.

    --

    segfaults are something else..

You need to have an Oscam for your specific linux build.

The binary you use seems for '486', and should run on 32 bits hardware.
Most probable cause is a mismatch creating the segfault. Or.. It might be a buggy build.

I do compile my own Oscam, specifically for my build without any mod.
If you need a modded version.. i can't say ?

However.. you need support for your hardware in any build you download as binary.
Most binary builds include support for all.

    --

So.. you use ubuntu, is that with a x64 or 32bits kernel ?

    do a: lsb_release -a
    and a: uname -a

  • I tried to use the most recent version ofOscam and got a segmentation fault, so I tried to build my own.

I will try the commands you have listed and the configs that I believe should work and see how far I get. I have ran out of patience with the card, but trying to look at the positives, I have learned a lot that I probably wouldn't have learnt.

I will give it a go and see how i progress, im not at home at the moment, so cant try it now.

EDIT: Sorry forgot to answer your question x32
