  • hi guys, on tuesday i have got virgin taking over my broadband (100mb) sly broadband is poor in my area, everytime i played xbox my box would glitch like hell.

so i am somewhat confused, i have looked into port forwarding on the hub, seems pretty striaght forward, but then i have come acroos info that suggests to use the hub as modem only, and add a router for port forwarding? i have read so much into it that i have confused myself and have no idea what set up i need,

can anybody give me solid advice on what i need to set up, do i need to buy a second router? or is it possible to do it all on the superhub?

sorry for all the questions. but want everything to run right, i play alot of online games, hence the move to virgin. hopefully i wont regret it.

  • Using superhub here buddy

I personally don't use another router and have had no problems (apart from intial messing around by virmin)

I have seen others use the extra router and perhaps they will offer advice as to why and advantages!

But for me Superhub works fine....just open your ports and you should be ok buddy

When all working you can create a backup of you hub setup which is useful so do that and keep it safe, then much like images you can just upload your settings
should you need to reset router or anything like that

    Have Fun!

  • Same as MrGmx - i use Virgin Broadband hub alone with nothing else !
If you have too many peers and connections it can suffer from syn swamping but you really have to abuse it for that to happen ! Again as Gmx already stated perhaps some users can offer up there experience as to why they prefer using additional hardware _ Imo its not needed for a hobbyist !

  • To be honest i use my hub in modem only mode. I found the wireless range on the super hub no where as near as good as my d-link router. Port forwarding is also less problematic than i found it was through the Super Hub.

Its horses for courses i suppose. You are just best doing what works best for you.

    Nano

  • thought i would give an update.
i am now using the superhub in modem mode only as suggested, i have added a belkin n300 for the wireless / port forwarding.

since switching to this setup my internet has not missed a beat.

    thanks for everybodys help.
