You should be ok buddy,
I know for Duo it has worked for me,
Plug it in > it should autodetect it and you should be able to select the drive and file to play from a media player.
Some players may not detect certain file types? I use Merlin i think lol and it seems to play most! but the normal avi, mp4 e.t.c should be fine!

Ive plugged it in but nothing looks like its been detected,ive looked in media scanner but can only scan HDD internal flash and memory temp folder.

Press the button you use to access recordings, which is highlighted in the image..
While in this menu press the Yellow button/Location, a new menu will open which will allow you to navigate to where the movies are on the HDD..

Hi pressed filelist which is slightly different from the remote shown in the last thread, yellow button location and found a path /media/usb which is where i plugged in the external hard drive but get a message directory/media/usb does not exist..

Do you have a movie directory created on the USB ? If so movie all your movies into this folder then try to access the path /media/usb/movie..
-
No i dont have a movie directory created on the usb, not sure how i do that, i just tried to mount the usb in the mount manager but it failed.. maybe i need to reboot the box..?
-
Telnet the below commands;
Restart the Vu+ then press Menu > Setup > System > Recording settings > choose the default movie location to /usb/movie..
Move all the movies in the new directory..
You should now be able to record to the external HDD, all recordings and movies will be available by pressing the file list button..

Hi again thanks for all your help ive not used telnet before i have connected to the box via dcc and selected telnet, would i just copy and paste what you have put in both commands in the above thread..? and if so do i send them individually. Just thought i would ask before i make a mistake also i didnt point out that i have a hard drive in the xtrend900 but just want to view my downloaded movies/series on tv through the external drive rather than plugging my laptop to the tv via hdmi all the time, thanks
