how sure are u that the line you have been given by a friend or whoever is definately working
-
Which line on the file you are talking about?
-
I imagine the line from the server which is supposed to be serving you....maybe it?s not active therefore it won?t open anything for the client(yours)..
-
as cazuela said buddy . are you share the line you have been given is active ?
-
is there a way to test it?
-
Yes CS-Studio m8...
Or the ccam-info plug in you can get for your box!
-
it could also be your end ,not adding the cline correctly respecting spaces ,etc...
another method worth a try is to ping the host of the server line : depending on your pc O.S ...try this : in START ,write cmd a new window will open, write: ping leave a space then write the host of the server ,i.e : freedyg.dontexist.net then press ENTER and it should show you if its online or not...
NOTE . this will only work on about 95% of all hosts ,,not on all.. -
or another method is to log into your receiver via telnet and issue the command ping followed by the dns address you have been given.

alternatively you can do the same in your PC..
start -> cmd-> ping IP or HOST and at least you?ll see if the server is online.... -
lots of methods really , ha
one thing to mention though is that within windows using cmd then ping command you cannot specify port to ping whereas in a linux environment via telnet you simply type
ping "ip address or dns address":"port number"
this method will ensure that the server port you need is open. Most common day routers will block ping requests to standard ping ports so for a solid solution used telnet via your receiver or a linux machine
