Hi guys, I have installed Ubuntu on my Windows PC. Just a quick question:- (This could be a stupid question), Can I download and install straight to my VU+ Solo2, with the right software setup from within Ubuntu?
Using Linux Ubuntu.

What exactly are you trying to achieve ?
if you'r refering to images then no you cant install a image to a Vu+ receiver via Ubuntu or any PC / MAC. you can however if using ViX ( Build 750 onwards ) FTP a zipped image to your receiver and using the Image manager install that with the click of two maybe three buttons.
-
Because Ubuntu loads and is faster, (web pages loading, software downloads, images, and plugins etc; ), I was going to use the Ubuntu side of my PC for any/all of the VU+. Keeping things seperate and reliable. Just a thought, not important, might be better to leave well enough alone.
Many thanks for your reply,

how well does WINE work under ubuntu
im gonna make the move over to ubuntu but there are still some apps that will run on win only. :(last time i tried it a few years ago it was ok but a wee bit sluggish at times, may have changed for the better, this is the exact same reason i have not moved to ubuntu full time yet, defo not going to that windows 8 ****e.

if you want to make the move to linux you could setup windows on virtual box so you get the best of both.

I'm just installing Ubuntu now in dual boot and will mess about, for the most part it should be fine its like I say just those few win apps that I'll tryto find a Linux version or try them under wine, hopefully all will be fine and I'll drop win7 altogether and fresh install Ubuntu 13.10 in a couple weeks.
I'm deffo not going onto win8 lol linux is the obvious other choice atm.

personally if and when i do move over to linux whole hog i really dont want to be emulating windows programmes i want native support, otherwise it kind of defeats the purpose for me.

Has anyone sucseeded in getting msn messenger to run in wine or play on linux or know of a linux messenger that supports group chat, this is the only thing stopping me ditching windows completley.

Have both installed buddy but the msn group shows in neither.
-
hmm strange, group support is listed as being supported on the amsn homepage
does this help?

I have Ubuntu on a spare internal drive, well away from Win 7, and at POST, key F8 for boot priority. Found this the best way, for myself to run more than one OS.

Pidgin, right click a contact and click initiate chat.

Neither can interact with the msn created group , both let you group contacts but cant handle private chat groups, in the end i decided to take the plunge anyway & installed ubuntu 13.10 then as suggested earlier

I setup Oracle virtual box then ran messenger reviver 2 which works fine, although its not truly msn group chat on linux its good enough for me & easy to switch between.
