[How To] Install an ipk file on any enigma2 receiver

Ipk is file extension for most the enigma2 plugins files and composed of compressed data of the plugin distributed in different folders for automatic installation,Barry allen and drivers are other examples of ipk files
There are three common methods for installation of ipk files

1- Telnet command by using Telnet from windows and better from DCC program

Transfer your ipk file to dreambox /tmp folder by dcc-ftp commands and put the following command in telnet window

ipkg install /tmp/enigma2-plugin-extensions-pluginame.ipk

you can use copy-paste to put ipk filename
some images like newnigma and openpli do not accept ipkg command we can use opkg instead
The following is demonstration of Barry allen ipk file installation by this method

2- DCC-upload packages method
This is the easiest installation method specially for beginner

3-Manual installation
after copy the ipk file to dreambox .tmp folder from dreambox we follow the demonstration(this is for old gemini but same principal apply to all images.

Most plugins, skins or softcams come packed inside a .ipk file.

There are a number of different ways to install this type of file.

1. USB Stick:

Copy the ipk file to a USB stick > insert USB stick into the receiver then follow on screen prompts.

2. Install through image menu:

With an FTP tool like DCC or Filezilla copy the ipk to any medium you want then install from the image menu.

This guide is for openatv image. Ask in the discussion thread for other images.

Blue button > plugins > ipk installer > /media/usb > (1) install extensions. > highlight the ipk by pressing ok button > green button/install

3. Telnet:

With an FTP tool like DCC or Filezilla send the ipk to /tmp folder > use this command in telnet/putty to install opkg install /tmp/*.ipk

4). IPK installer tools:

With DCC - Dreambox Control Center connect to the receiver >tools > packages > upload package > select the IPK.

Vu+ Control Centre Latest Version also has an ipk installer.

5). Dream Explorer plugin

Dream Explorer is a File Browser. Simply add the ipk to any folder or medium (usb or hdd) you want.

Open Dreambox Explorer > browse to the ipk you want to install > highlight the ipk > press ok button > (2) install this package > restart GUI.

j'ai vu+ultimo avec blackhole 3.0.5 , lors de l'installation du plugin suptv, j'ai cette error :

* parse_from_stream_nomalloc: Missing new line character at end of file!
root@vuultimo:~# opkg install /tmp/*.ipk
Collected errors:
* parse_from_stream_nomalloc: Missing new line character at end of file!

après il redémarre , lorsque je met le code + bouton vert j'ai une erreur : Connexion error

Qu'est-ce je dois faire ?

I just extracted that ipk there doesn't seem any obvious error in it.

But here are the files of the ipk.

Download the zip extract the files and copy them over to

usr/lib/enigma2/python/Plugins/Extensions/suptv

you will need to make the directory suptv

reboot your gui.

Newnigma2 for DM520 is a DreamOS image.

You must use a .deb for plugins, skins etc, not .ipk versions.

Any reason why you would not just use opkg and reference the source directly ? - - ie no need to mess about with Plugins, FTP, or USB's etc etc

For example, if the resource that you want is on say the GitHub, then just ssh into your box and:-

opkg install https://github.com/developersrepo/raw/master/plugins/enigma2-name-of-file.ipk

and then just let the box get on with it - that URL is of course just made-up for illustration only and is not real, but if you have the URL anyway, why not just use it

Your average member isn`t likely going to be browsing GitHub. If they are, they probably won`t need any guide to install an ipk file.

I certainly take your point about the average user - - - very true I'm sure. I only used the GitHub as an example, but it should work OK for any URL. Also, many builds these days have the OpenWebIf terminal available, so copying and pasting a URL into that from their web-browser might be worth a mention as an easier alternative for those who do not wish to play with SSH directly.
