The Stalker plugin for your H7 emulates how a MAG device connects to a provider who published their content using a content delivery platform called 'Stalker' or sometimes also called 'Ministra'.

MAG devices that connect to a Stalker content delivery platform do not use a username and password to identify themselves, but instead they use the MAC address of MAG device. The MAC address of the MAG device therefore has to be recognized and accepted by the Stalker platform in order for it to allow the MAG device to have access to the server and it's content.

Therefore, if we wish to use the QT Stalker Plugin on a device like the H7 to connect to a Stalker content delivery platform then the MAC address belonging to the H7 must first be registered with the content delivery platform.

When using either a MAG device or software that emulates a MAG device we must therefore firstly contact the provider to find out if they have a Stalker content delivery platform available, and if they do have one available, to give the provider the MAC address of the device so that it can be registered to permit connection and use.

The MAC address of your H7 will need to be registered with your provider in order for the Stalker plugin to connect and show your provider's content.

    Hear Hear, well said !!!!

As a subscriber to the lists referenced I can wholeheartedly confirm both the detail and sentiment of that expressed above.

Over the years I have had the privilege of both meeting RMS and hearing him speak on occasion. Yes, I am sure that he can appear pedantic to many, but IMHO we all owe him a debt of gratitude for his efforts right across the world. Make no mistake, the world is better place for having him in it and for his activism and efforts in so many varied fields and spheres. He is perhaps one of the worlds genius eccentrics and it is I think a very sad reflection upon our society when we can no longer apparently accommodate someone and allow those to deliberately miss-quote and other wise twist and obfuscate what is has been said both in fact and meaning.

In many ways, the Free Software Movement mirrors large elements of our society or try's to show us how many right-thinking people would like society to be. However, there are those in the corridors of power, the press and beyond who would seek to quash and silence it by pulling every possible politically correct argument and accusation to do so.

I am reminded of the words or Cicero:-

A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.

For the traitor appears no traitor; he speaks in the accents familiar to his victim, and he wears their face and their garments and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men.

He rots the soul of a nation; he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city; he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to be feared. The traitor is the plague. — Marcus Tullius Cicero, from a speech given to the Roman Senate, recorded in approximately 42 B.C. by Sallust.

Ahh - - - I follow you now. Personally, I have never tried to tackle a project along those lines, but I would have thought that this sort of thing must have been already solved. Hopefully there will be some server people here who will be able to offer some more specific thoughts and ideas

How you tackle something like that will probably depend upon what client/s you wish to use.

For example, say you are using a 'Vix or Open-ATV based E2 build, then you could just use an HLS/M3U generated from the E2 box and then load that into your client.

On the other hand you could use say Kodi, an E2 Addon and point it at the E2 box .......

There's going to be a ton of options.

Well, perhaps the first thing to say is the obvious one. - The FormulerZ8 runs on Android and not Linux.

OK, so the basic 'droid kernel we are told is apparently based on a pared-down Linux kernel, but there (to my simple mind at least) any similarities or comparisons both begin and end.

From a commercial point of view I am given to understand that the MyTvOnline 1 and 2 apps is what Formuler consider to be their flagship app, is proprietary to Formuler and is simply created by them and installed exclusively on certain Formuler devices as a means of encouraging people to buy their hardware, which at the end of the day is how they actually earn their living.

Personally speaking I am one of those people who for the most-part shun and avoid anything proprietary and particularly android and absolutely avoid anything to do with google-android. That being said, I can admire nice functional software when I see it, an IMHO the combination of the MyTvOnline2 app running on a Z8 (which has hopefully been 'de-googled') is a combination of hardware and software that is very capable and useable when married to a good IPTV provider.

I guess that we all use these sorts of devices and applications in a way that we individually choose to do, which is fair enough and all well and good. That said, I don't see the point of bogging-down any device (whatever it maybe) with a load of irrelevant cruft and rubbish that does not perform a valuable function for the user and deliver value of some sort. The Z8 is a well specified and capable device that will of course be capable of running quite a few things before any rough-edges start to show, but it is when all said and done running android which as we all know can be very susceptible when running poorly crafted and un-maintained apps.

I've not used a WD device for a good few years myself.

That said, they typically need you to enter some form of authentication for whichever service you are connecting to, (ie SMB, FTP, NFS etc etc) and then by default the filesystem displayed/offered will be the one related to that user only.

Meanwhile, WD devices typically use the Twonky DLNA server, which if enabled and setup should allow you to playback any stored media using any DLNA client, which on an E2 Box /Zgemma would be the DLNA Client Broswer Plugin without the need to mount the WD NAS by any other means.

I am currently looking around for something along those lines as well.

I have a couple of DVB-T tuners set-up and working just fine, but as far as Freesat is concerned have a work-around using an IP connection to an Enigma2 box for the Freesat channels using a .m3u list.

Personally I prefer to use Cockpit if a web-interface is considered desirable for server admin' tasks.

A Red-Hat tool but also available in the Ubuntu respositories (and others), and is particularly good if you need to administer multiple servers (even when they are based on different Linux distro's).

    Reference:- https://cockpit-project.org/

ie no need to mess about with Plugins, FTP, or USB's etc etc

Your average member isn`t likely going to be browsing GitHub. If they are, they probably won`t need any guide to install an ipk file.

But thanks for the suggestion.. I will add it to the article.

and the average user probably doesn't know how to telnet/putty into their box. ;)

I certainly take your point about the average user - - - very true I'm sure. I only used the GitHub as an example, but it should work OK for any URL. Also, many builds these days have the OpenWebIf terminal available, so copying and pasting a URL into that from their web-browser might be worth a mention as an easier alternative for those who do not wish to play with SSH directly.

Any reason why you would not just use opkg and reference the source directly ? - - ie no need to mess about with Plugins, FTP, or USB's etc etc

For example, if the resource that you want is on say the GitHub, then just ssh into your box and:-

    Code
    opkg install https://github.com/developersrepo/raw/master/plugins/enigma2-name-of-file.ipk

and then just let the box get on with it - that URL is of course just made-up for illustration only and is not real, but if you have the URL anyway, why not just use it

Yes, the config file is supposed to be at /etc/enigma2/e2m3u2bouquet/config.xml.

Alternatively, you might want to consider using my MiracleWhip plugin: it's a bit quirky to use, but allows you to rapidly add/delete/modify Suls config from a browser; I believe it still works with the most recent version, too :-)

Many thanks - - - a case of not seeing the wood for the trees in my case I think :thank_you2:

All working a treat now thanks, and I'll be sure to look at MiracleWhip too
