***box m3 remote problem

My friend has a ***box m3 that has been working fine for the last 12 months but all of a sudden the remote is very slow, he has replaced the remote with a new one but still the same, i suggested that he use a new channel list from ajsat but the remote response is still very slow so does anyone know the best course of action to take other than buy a new box.

well that was my next move but i don't know if the box is a clone or not and i don't wan't to be responsible for him bricking his box, i do know that there is a way to find the chip id with something to do with 8888 but can't remember, could you recommend an image if it isn't a clone?
