Network disconnects every 10 mins or so // Annoying!

  • Hi guys,

I've just started using the OpenATV backup image by Ten Below and am having a strange network problem. While watching TV I noticed that the picture & sound was freezing for about 5-10 seconds every few minutes. I then checked /var/log/messages and found out what is causing this:

I tried assigning a static IP to my VU Plus Solo 2 but it has made no difference. MY router is running OpenWRT and there's nothing relevant in the router logs. Any ideas why my network would be disconnecting like this?

    Thanks!

  • give the solo2 a static IP , make sure you also add the name server settings.
whichever IP you give the solo2 you also need to use for port frowarding in the router.
full reboot the solo2 and the router...

  • Cheers. I've done exactly that and still the same problem. I've also done the following.

    - Ran the a constant ping from my router to my Solo 2 on one screen
    - Tailed the message logs on the other screen

Outcome: No packet loss at all from constant ping to Solo2 even when message log shows Link as down. This is weird.

Think I'll revert my router to stock again (it gives better Wifi performance anyway). OpenWRT was just a little experimental though I have no problems at all with any other devices on my network.

I think I just need to go through the process of elimination to make sure I don't have a faulty NIC on the Sol2 2 (though there is no packet loss when pinging from the t
    router??)

ANy suggestions very welcome. Thanks for the help so far!

  • If you have given up troubleshooting this problem, try tomato firmware... (I use toastman builds)
I find them to be better built with network speeds on a par with stock firmware..

OK so I've found out what the problem is now! The wiring from my router seems to be dodgy as I tried a different CAT6 connection and it has been perfect. Will need to rewire it properly but now I know what's caused it

I was interested in trying Tomato but it doesn't seem to be compatible with my TP-Link WDR3600 router. Tried both Open-WRT and DD-WRT. Found performance was much better on Stock firmware so may just revert back.

    Cheers!
