it stared innocently enough my sister always moaning about the rubbish range on her f5s, ripped an old 2006 sd sly box apart swapped the ir receiver and after that decided, well pictures tell a thousand words.
range is much better
im now thinking of doing something similar with a sly hd box and my xp1000 but putting an external hard drive inside as there is a lot of room in the box
i got an old F3 that i havent used in a long time, also an old SD thompson box. anychance of a tut. would love to blow off the cobwebs on my soldering station.
(modify the remote that belongs to that box and i will be really impressed!!)
mate it is only bodged together ripped out all but the front panel kept the leds that i soldered to from the original ones on the f5s board, the f5s had a duff ir sensor so unsolderd the sly one swapped it on the f5s board only 3 solder joints easy enough used some white plastic to cover the holes left by removing the original box innards. used the original hole for the chassis mounted f plug the *** ir sensor is really good no need to remount it seems t go straight through the sly box plastic.
forgot to mention on front board of original sly box i took off all the components and soldered directly to the back of the leds i wanted lit up, haven't decided if i want the middle sly one to light up or not yet

now my brother has seen my sisters f5s sat box and wants me to do the same to he's box, I know I have another old sly box somewhere, but where. any suggestions for possible places I may have put it on a postcard please
i love things like this, ive done loads of wierd stuff similar in the past. for internal drives, ive found that if you remove a small hdd from its caddy, the metal is thin enough to be cut and shaped into brackets / supports for the HDD and will take the weight of the drive, and keep it secure with no problems
i had the first ever TM receiver with an internal HDD, it also doubled up as an MP3 jukebox lol
im so tempted to do this with a slyHD case and one of my enigma 2 receivers

the sly HD boxes have 12v fans inside them as standard, the newer smaller receivers even have them nicely side mounted, as well as the HDD and fittings already in place, and cables long enough to reach anywhere inside the case, all youll need a a SATA-USB adaptor
