DM500s - Totally Gone

    I have a problem and wondered if someone can help? I flashed the commando image via dcc on to my dm500. Before i did this the remote was working on and off with the box. After i flashed i restarted the box, i can see the start up commando logo but nothing else happens after that. It's just frozen. I tried to flash it via dreamup before dcc and it doesnt recognise the dream box. The null modem cable works fine as i flashed another back with the same image.


    I can't telnet/ftp into the box as i don't no what the ip is. I cant access the menu to get the ip or even change it. Even tried hyperterminal but no luck.


    Green light is constantly on but does not respond to remote. All connections secure too including power plug.


    Anyone have any ideas on what other options i may have. Think i have done the lot tbh. How else can i get the ip?

    As i said above i cant flash via dreamup as box not being recognised as not able to ftp either.


    Any other suggestions, i just need to get another image on to the box for it to work?

    If it won't connect with DreamUp then you have a corrupted bootloader. The only option is to jtag it, and to be honest for how long that takes and the stuff you need to get to do it you may as well throw the box away and buy another.


    Sorry to be brutal but thats the way it is i'm afraid.

    Open Dreambox Control Center > Configuration > Click the Search button to scan your network for the device..


    Login to your router and check network/device settings for the ip address.

    I tried settings and stuff. It doesn't pick up the ip in dcc and not listed in my router settings either.


    Tried all versions of dream up but not connecting, it picks up the port but not when I connect the box.


    The green light is stagnant for long periods of times, but if I mess around with the on/off button on the box then the remote seems to work but it doesn't change anything on the screen.


    Which dream up version mate?

    Tried different psu and no can't flash at all. I flashed another box using the same cable and PC so the cable is not faulty

    when you ask dreamup to connect and then plug in the dm
    Also on settings, Uncheck the box use network
    port com1, if this fails which is very rare try an older version of dreamup
    if that fails see what master g said about jtag..

    You can get these boxes for as little as £20 used and £40 new on ebay. Its going to cost you at least £10 in bits to make the jtag cable plus postage and you may not even get the box working again if its a component failure causing the issue. You may think i'm not being helpful and that i'm just trying to wind you up, but i can honestly say i'm not. Its my honest opinion that you would be better off to just cut your losses and just get a replacment box which will save you all the hassle of jtagging.


    If it was something like a DM800se or a Vu+ box then i would go down the jtag route, but for an old DM500 it just isn't worth the time or the hassle considering how cheap a replacement would be.
