Rather than me answer that straight away would you care to comment on why ViX has not officially supported the Opticum AX-ODIN and EVO M7 receivers before now?

Because we have no interest in supporting these receivers officially or otherwise. you are more than welcome to build ViX images as you are currently doing, but we wont provide any form of support for them, that's for you do sort out your self. same as with others who build unofficial images for other unsupported hardware.

ultimately which receiver gets ViX support comes down to andy black, he's the one who does the hard work and he's the one who decides who he offers his support for.

Because you have a commercial interest in supporting the commercial ViX images. I had hoped I had been at least of some use in pointing some in the right direction with the EVO Xfinity receivers in this thread, sadly it seems to have taken to personal attacks now, unfortunately at this point then I would bow out. Any genuine customers of ours who require genuine help by all means get in touch and we will as always do the best we can to help. Thanks.

I have never had a commercial interest in ViX or any other image, I am not a trader, just a private owner using my hardware to test the ViX image on it.

You were not a Lavatronics customer, you purchased from the Irish distributor but ended up coming to our forum for support, I'm afraid you need to speak with your own countries supplier for support in this case, it's not something we had decided to support online channel list wise and still take this view, it's a technical support forum only for Lavatronics customers, sorry we couldn't help but then it really wasn't our place to be helping in this instance.

so what happens when a customer of yours comes to you for help with one of the unofficial ViX Zeus images your touting for the EVO line on your site ?, are you going to give them full support or palm them off as usual i wonder ?.

I would not worry about it mate, it's the same with a lot of the none enigma ( closed source boxes ), you get a official update once in a while but you get a lot of these patched or unofficial updates. It's likely just a way to keep things above board and on the rite side of the law. I have a Ferguson ariva receiver and they do this all the time.

official updates = FTA so no cam support or illegal movie sharing servers etc.
Patched or unofficial updates = tend to include every thing else allowing plausible deniability from the manufacturer.

That said it would be nice to see a proper change log released with these patched firmwares, instead of the usual "and more changes" rubbish, so you know exactly what your getting.

LOL i never posted a wrong work on their forum, and i was banned. personally i would never consider buying from those cowboys after the alien debacle. They tout them selves as experts and the second you ask for help your gone. how there still in business is beyond me.

The unofficial updates you see here and else where are largely fixes for various encryptions or keys etc, There pretty much useless for your intended region ( north america ) unless stated otherwise in the changelog.

That said there is nothing stopping you from using them.

ATV the same as ViX and all other OE-A member teams now uses a totally new OE build environment, which is vastly different from the one the 3.xx series images was based on, it's just not possible to use backups from one platform to another without causing massive problems for your self, this is why andy took the radical step of disabling the restore function between ViX 3.0 and Zeus.

you can still backup things like bouquets, timers.xml and autotimers.xml files and any cam config files but you should not use the inbuilt backup feature for this. That said do make a full backup of your current image so you can use it again if the 4.0 image series is not to your liking.

If it don't work. .. Let people know what your problems are and if they don't get resolved. ... Don't use it. ..... But to have a go at the devs.... That's just stupid/pathetic... Take your pick ..

Unfortunately thats the norm in the E2 community. makes me wonder why i bother putting in 70 plus hrs a week into helping people / beta testing images and plugins etc, just to get grief when a users free plugin does not work to his liking. god only knows how plugins devs like mfaraj57 continue to work on without throwing the towel in and walking away.

hi i bought one of these boxes from sat-shop.co.uk and i cant get any help or answers what so ever from them they have blocked me from the support forum for telling them they had released the box for sale without any real understanding of how it works or any support for its customers,

sadly that's the common thing when users ask for help from them, they are more than happy to take your cash but ban you in a second if you ask them for support.

why mess with these things and release them before they are tested proper? just my thoughts, anyone else?

you'r not dealing with a multimillion dollar, international corporation the likes of Apple or Microsoft you know, as with ALL E2 devs your dealing with one person or a small team of amateur's who work out of their own time and expense to bring you these plugins.

Just though i'd point that part out.

sorry but what has that got to do with the online update ?.

and yes we are aware of the issue, it's a corrupt count file on the server but we have to wait for the server admin to sort it out, i will post direct links for all Zeus 011 image builds a little later, when things at work get a little quieter.

Picons are best stored on the flash of the receiver, it is by far the fastest available location but if thats not possible a USB stick is acceptable, but it will have to be inserted permanently.

EPG data is by far best stored on the internal HDD, it wont affect system performance in any way at all, EPG data is held in live memory aka the flash and only written to or read from the HDD at boot up and shutdown. There is no advantage to storing the EPG on a mounted USB stick but it will work happily if you do decide to use this location.

    Hi
No its on every channel I turn to.. And yes I've installed picons I think their on the HDD.. Sorry I'm a bit of a newbie.

Thats why then, storing picons on a HDD causes the HDD to have to spin up on every channel change, this can easily add a 5 second lag to channel zapping times.

yes it will be but they will tell you it corrupts the image and leaves traces after removing it , i have never had an issue, and it takes 2 minutes to flash a box at worst

No one has ever claimed any such thing, It's TSpanel we advise against using not the linuxsat plugin.
