As far as I have seen , a vu+solo2 doesnt have an lcd screen to set up or display picons..
or maybe I misunderstand your post

when you say : "black screen",
¿ No GUI ? ¿ No channels,including fta, opening? ¿ or doesn´t get past the logo?
try reflashing with a ready made backup on site or an older version ,like BH 1.7.x, see if it loads up...

It will auto install.
watch the video again.

Run it with DHCP enabled, it will automatically find a free ip and allocate it.
restart box ,check IP, disable dhcp ,now restart box
maybe you´ve tried this already..
