Greyed out I have seen on my s10 trying to run hibox F2 firmware on it.
Other people have seen it with s9 trying to run s10 firmware.

the factory site(at least one of them) mentions the s11,so if they were clones I don't think a factory site would have support for them.
The 10-10-11 firmware was one of the better ones for the s10 anyway.

dish is too puny and you have the wrong type lnb.
for 97w you need at least a 80cm dish and linear lnb.

when you download it should save as a .rar or .zip.
If you are seeing binary something is radically wrong with the download process.
You should get a popup to save as and you shouldn't be selecting open.
Sounds like you don't have any archiver program installed so windows or the browser doesn't know what to do with the file.
I download to a known folder like downs\2012\1114 then unrar or unzip after the download.

s16 needs s16 firmware,don't try to load from another brand/model.

s16 uses a different template for channels so I doubt it.

crank the receiver audio down.
You get distortion on even sd channels if the receiver audio is cranked all the way up.
