Phoenix could you please tell me why you think Vix is better than Blackhole as I may try Vix?

I'm seeing some things I don't like on Blackhole. I originally had a GPT formatted 4TB single partition hard drive installed but Blackhole didn't like it. It recorded fine but after an hour on standby the LCD screens would go completely black. However I had to hold the power button on the remote for several seconds for the receiver to come back on (didn't feel normal) - when it came back on, it booted as if I had switched it off at the back then back on again. Is that what Deep Standby does?

Also when I tried to record with my hard drive it would say the hard drive wasn't initialized when it was. Maybe you just can't use 4TB drives period. Anyway I'm using a 128GB SSD drive and it never goes into Deep Standby anymore (if that's what it was doing before) and I'm not getting any other problems.

So just to be clear. Blackhole doesn't have Deep Standby is that correct?

So how would I go about using the Vix power timers to wake from Deep Standby and download the EPG?

I'll rephrase it, the recorded file contains the video and the following embedded audio files: MP2 & AC3. I'm actually quite familiar with VirtualDub but an easier way to save the video with just 1 audio file is to use VideoRedo (it just muxes the files instead of re-encoding anything). However I would like to record the broadcast with 1 audio stream (AC3) instead of 2 (MP2 and AC3). I could do that with the VU+ Ultimo on Blackhole 1.7.9 so surely there's a way to do it on 2.0.8?

    I read this somewhere:

OpenTV allows you to receive the EPG guide from your satellite, (Its the exact same data Sly use for their EPG, so you can be sure its 100% up to date, all the time). This is better, because it is always updated by Sly (who better to provide the data?). And also you will never have any problems, I have been using this since I got my box, and it's never failed on me.

So is CrossEPG and OpenTV the best things to use? I know what CrossEPG does but what does OpenTV do?

Can someone please tell me how to setup and configure both of them.

I don't get the joke? It should only take a coder a few days work to make the extension so what's wrong with $300 US dollars for a few days work?

I do video restoration for a living. I find that interlaced videos, even 1080i HD videos in nice quality, have visible interlacing artifacts. The only way to get rid of them is to convert to progressive. However if you do that you'll get a choppy framerate unless you double the framerate. When you double the framerate, the framerate looks normal or even smoother than normal. Unfortunately 1080p 59.94 fps is not supported by Bluray so I have to convert to 720p. Even so, I find that 720p looks better than 1080i especially for sports footage.

So I don't understand why you're saying that doubling the framerate would be a mess?

Does anyone know where I can go to hire someone to make a recording extension? I am offering $300 for someone to make the following:

I would like an extension made which gives the following recording resolution options:

    Record 1080i 25fps in 720p 59.94fps.
Record all standard definition TV in 720p 59.94fps.
    Record all standard definition TV in 720 x 480i 29.97 fps or 720 x 576i 25fps

Allow me to set the maximum variable bitrate used for recordings. Ideally I would like the extension to automatically use the correct bitrate needed to get all the quality. I don't want to record in a higher bitrate than what is needed to prevent increasing the file size for no reason.

BlackHole-2.0.8. I bought the guide for £1 on Ebay and I learned more from reading that step by step guide than I did from looking in forums for several days. I don't understand why there aren't any step by step guides on forums or anywhere...

Unfortunately the one thing it doesn't tell you how to do is configure Oscam to read a Sly card which is what I needed the most! I downloaded a pre-configured image and I can view Sly now but it would be nice if I knew how to setup Oscam myself to read my Sly card!

I bought a VU+ Beginners guide and it showed that TS Panel has a LinuxSat-Support downloads section where you can download all the latest Oscam, etc. Seems a lot easier than trying to find it online (I couldn't find an IPK package easily) until I asked someone for it. Is there a similar function that can do that when not using TS Panel?

    I read this somewhere:

We discovered that the TS-Panel hacks into too many important system files and very messily too, this in turn causes instabilities in the image and makes it almost impossible to fully remove all traces of the panel from the image

Is that true or can I install TS Panel on my VU+ Duo2 without worrying about those issues because they're not true?

I downloaded Oscam from the Oscam website. This was the filename for it: oscam-svn9131-dreambox_fpu-webif-Distribution.tar.gz. Apparently that file's useless on it's own as I can't install that file. It seems I need an IPK file but I don't know where to get one.

Do I get it from the Blackhole Softcam Collection thread? If so how do I know which file to download because none of them have the same name as the "oscam-svn9131-dreambox_fpu-webif-Distribution" file from the Oscam site.

just go into menu/setup/system /temp and fan control and put it up a bit and press green to save the setting , menu /information /about will give you the temperature also mine are normally about 33-35 degrees

There is no "Temp and fan control" menu within the "Setup" menu. Menu, Information, About doesn't show the temperature. Have you installed something to get those features?

I have got plenty of airflow around the unit and I don't have anything sat on top of it.
