Upgrade PVR800 HD Tool ~ Using a null modem cable

    Connecting up

If you are using a PC with a dedicated RS232 serial ports, the port reference will usually be COM1 or COM2 depending on which port you connect to.

If you are using an USB to RS232 serial converter cable with the null modem cable, check that you have the correct COM port selected when you start the process.
Sometimes you need to reflash the USB/RS232 software on your PC to activate the com port. The software on the USB/RS232 converter usually selects COM3 or COM4. If you have the wrong port setting you will get a “can’t find port” error,
although, you don’t always get a port error every time you select the wrong port.

    Upgrade procedure

    Download the file:- "Upgrade_PVR800_HD_Tool.rar"
Unzip this file & you have a folder with 5 files:-

    eromclient.abs, flashburn.ini, sdram.ini,
    LZMA.exe & eromUpgrade.exe & helpfile.txt.

    1. Connect up your PC to the Openbox using a null modem serial cable.
    2. Switch the box OFF.
    3. Run EromUpgrade.exe then check the com port setting is correct
    4. Select the latest firmware .abs file.
    5. Select "next" then switch ON the box & follow the instructions to load
    and flash burn the firmware.
    6. If the process does not start, try various time combinations of switching
the box ON after selecting "next"
    7. Don't switch the power off or disconnect whilst the download & flash is
    taking place.

If you get a memory error it may be because the timing of selecting “next” and switching the box on is out of sync. Try again & be patient.

As cazuela said, use the file in his post.

To install this channel list, simply transfer the unzipped channel list to a USB Stick, and then insert the USB Stick into the USB port, which is located on the rear of the receiver, then follow the instructions below.

Click Menu -> Tools -> Upgrade By USB, then in 'Upgrade Mode' select 'Misc Files'
then click on 'Select & Upgrade' and select OPTION 1 [TP_PROG] now click the OK button,
when you see a check mark or tick next to the TP_PROG, click the yellow button to install.
Once the file have been installed, reboot the receiver, once rebooted you can then click the Zoom or SatList button, and directly select any satellite from within the satellite data base list.

The cccam glitching would be one reason for it , but iv read on another forum other people are having the same problem. Soi reckon dropping back to februarys firmware would fix this. Thanks for the tip mastermail.

Has your friend a standard desktop? When I started flashing my old cable box back in the day I used my parents old Dell desktop with the standard rs 232 cable and it worked straight off. Maybe you just need to go back to basics. I know there is another older loader around. Let me have a look for you dude. Gimme few hours

Jester do you have or do you know anyone with a desktop pc? The reason being, it can be a lot easier flash a box using the serial port on a desktop instead of the USB type on a laptop. Just a thought

I'd stick with the lists, some channels cause the box to reboot so these would be removed and duplicates of some channels would also be removed.

This is exactly what he told me Jester99 :

Hey hooley whats up, all I did was open the loader, used the software that your good self posted 15th March, ticked the include bootloader box and let it update, I never touched the settings, ie just left com port setting and baud rate as is.

can anyone tell me what settings for use with loaders for rs232 null modem connection, i have tried a few but they wont connect, keeps saying reset target. not sure what to put in the fields for com port, parity bits rate. if anyone can help me with these i would be very greatful.

Jester99 im waiting for my mate to get back to me with an answer for you. Hold out there a bit longer

I have to agree with Glen, stick with originals. The few pound you would save is not worth the hassle in the long run if something goes wrong. Stick with reputable suppliers like our site sponsors.

At the moment there is no way of checking reliability/speed on the openbox. A lot of time it is quite difficult to get a good reliable cline. Are you downloading anything while you are watching tv, this can sometimes cause channel break up.
