if you are only sharing internally then Oscam is probably your best bet, not because CCcam will melt your card, but because there are channels that won't work with CCcam. Your sly card won't melt unless you are clocking it more than 500Mhz -and there is no reason to overclock your card - again overclocking cards is just an effort to make a server faster and this is more to do with external shares.

Read about the positives - i think too many people search the net for people who have had problems - spend the same amount of time reading the positives and you will get a balanced view.

It isn't that simple. Consider this. I have a local sly FTV card. It takes upto 100ms for it to serve an ecm request. I have a JSC sports card. It takes 300ms to serve an ecm request, and topping that is my MTV Unlimited, which takes 600ms.

Depending on where your server is located, it could take between 40 and 200ms for the server to respond, and add this to the time it takes for their card to respond. As well as this, there can be network trafffic, stuff going on on your network, their server might be busy.... etc

when making a judgement you do need to consider all of this!! - but once you understand what can effect ecm times, you can make a better judgement!!

    Thanks for reply.

Does this mean that now I have moved from the previous setup of using the DM500HD as card server to using the combination of Linux-PC/DM500HD that I have reduced the number of cards I have access to? Is there any way to restore the full compliment of cards?

Yes that is correct - a couple of things you could do, firstly, increase the amount of peers, secondly, you could put your best lines in the receiver, thirdly, you could only share your cards and not your hops, so then you can keep the lines you receive from your peers on your receiver. The third option might annoy existing peers so maybe a combination of the first 2 options is the best way to go!

for question 1 - are you sure you don't mean you have 1 card on hop 1, but 7 downhops for resharing? your fline does not define your reshare level for your local card so this is quite likely.

for question 2, you are sharing from your server to another receiver, so that means that your client receiver is one hop down from your server, therefore you will only be able to see the cards from your server in which you have a reshare.

Fancy doing a 'how to' with notes and pics? :haha:

Might be a plan once everything is how I want it - Suspecting getting it working with the smartreader is going to be the hardest part as I haven't used one before!

Argolis Smargo Smartreader Triple Reader is the one you mean - I ordered one myself and should arrive tomorrow or wednesday - just did a network install of Debian on my old crappy lappy and got the CCcam 2.1.3/Oscam auto install done as well, server is up and running - not working anything just yet - just need to wait 'till the reader arrives so I can really have some fun!

It isn't anything I have seen before - quick search comes up with others that have had issues with CCcam rebooting and could be to do with a script checking for crashes - not sure myself but at least the issue has been narrowed down.

what master G asked you if you were doing is what you have to do to get the CCcam.cfg in the right place and to work without disappearing. Just sticking it in the folder where it is read from by CCcam won't work.

Still not sure how you have it set up. I gather that you have Oscam and CCcam on the same computer 'cause you are using localhost ip address. Is your server listen port different to the newcamd port? (it needs to be different and you only need the server listen port open on your router) - When you say CCcam isn't working, in what way? can you browse the internet on the same network when your server is down? Can you access the webif? Does it go off and start up again on it's own accord?

If you are only using Oscam to send cards to CCcam then it wouldn't be relying on any external network connection so it wouldn't be appearing to have a problem as such, however CCcam is your server so it would.

you would think so but I am arriving at that from a symptoms to possible cause of sypmtoms point of view! - so further investigation of the way all the wiring and dish/aerials are set up would rule this out, but also possibly add to the mystery:misdoubt:

I am wondering if it is an earthing issue, sure a dish installer or electrician will correct me on this but if the aerial and dish are somehow earthing through the TV aerial then it may be relying on your TV aerial being plugged in so it can earth - just a guess really!

Agree with ppdon re possible network issues - My isp had me on the wrong profile for months a while back and kept getting dropouts. Also some routers can connect you using the wrong ADSL line mode. Are you connected to your peers during this downtime i.e. is it just the server part that is failing?

the boxnation problem is probably nothing to do with your setup but probably more to do with the fact that your peers might need to block out other peers to get boxnation.

The config files are very limited - it does help to post details of how your user accounts are set up etc, which is ok so long as you xxx out the passwrds ports and dns addresses.

Also rather than posting files, copy and paste the contents directly in the chat and wrap with a code tag

    for example:

    Code
    example of
    text
    wrapped in code

code tag is the '#' (hash) on the second line of tools, - to use this just highlight each config file and press the '#'

Not might not even be the configuration, it could be a hardware problem. Sometimes there could be some powersaving issues, or network issues causing it to stop working.

remember that if you have a dedicated server, you lose a hop for your own receiver, so you will only will be able to unlock what your peers can. Also a consideration is power - what happens if there is a powercut when you are away? A PC with a bios that allows you to tell it to reboot after a power cut, or a Laptop with a battery that will last your longest powercut would be a good idea. These two obstacles are what caused me to go back to the receiver because my spare PCs are old and I missed that hop!
