No love for us in the usa for epg. Either learn to web scrape and cron for auto update and remap your channels or pay 17 bucks and go with xtreme. Your basically paying them to keep up with constant changes.
Not sure if it at all helps but Mediaportal has a cool epg tool EPG Buddy.
I'm using it in Kodi with an HDHomerun. Surely it takes come configuration time.
Adaptable to sat receivers?
Yea he is asking for use with a linux based system. The easiest solution is what I described above. Epg buddy is windows based. It could be made to work with linux but would be a manual solution.

I'm very new to Enigma2 systems. So I'm on a major learning mission.
I wasn't sure if you could create the xmltv and related files on a Windows system and have the receiver use them.
I know that since the HDHomerun box hooked to my cable system provided no channel data or schedule I had buddy pull from TV Guide.
It required setting up a few email accts. with TV Guide to get the local channels broadcast by my cable company in the clear mapped to the Kodi equipped pc's I have.
Once I got it all tweaked to perfection Kodi works like a charm.
That's been what I've been trying to see if I could get working on my Zgemma H7.
Baby steps!
Cheers for the reply’s
I would like to "De-stagnify" this thread. It came upon me last night that watching channels such as on AFN and others that there is an EPG shown.
Well. I'm using Media Portal with my HDHomerun Extend receiver.
I haven't been at all able to show my satellite tuner in the program, but even my software defined radio shows as a tuner with a BDA driver.
There is a cool application called Media Buddy whereas you can generate an EPG directly from many sources.
My source is TV Guide. It's free. The program parses channels from the site.
I can use many cable provider sources and pull program guides for them. Then files are generated (xml, etc).
An import function then puts the EPG into Media Portal.
So the question for EPG gurus would be. Since Enigma2 EPG plugins aren't at all USA friendly, where exactly is the transponder EPG that AFN (and others) stored in my receiver?
If it were a matter of generating a file in Media Buddy and ftp-ing it into my receiver....I'd be golden.
Of course finding a BDA driver to show my receiver tuner in Media Portal would be a plus.
That way I could map my satellite channels directly into the MP database.
Any ideas?

Both of these plugins:
explain basically how it works on e2, they may also help with your goal.
