  • ..switching back to ncam seems to make that work...but again why doesn't it have the option to "auto try" given group EMM keys for a given transponder on a given satellite...or does it?

    edit:

For channels with the same service id, the correct ECM key will be detected automatically, but each key needs a unique groupid. If you need different ECM keys for channels with the same service id, make sure they belong to different groups, like in the example:

    Ok...good.

That said, are most of the people hunting keys using TBS dvb cards on desktops or are you just grabbing ts streams, extracting EMM, and using povervu home edition or some other tool to find them? I've got a few good GPUs and cpus and could pitch in on that...or at least want to learn how.

  • So in regard to these "auto ECM keys" that GTMedia uses successfully to descramble almost everything, is there a mechanism in oscam-emu or ncam to auto try these given keys when descrambling is otherwise unsuccessful?

A "catch all and try these until one works or we run out of keys" option? Seems this is how GTMedia is doing it? Seems it could potentially save us all some time since these appear to be mostly "default" keys?

  • I'm sure the emu in the GT Media works the same or similar as ncam or oscam. There is some EMM keys in the GT that grabs the auto ECM keys just a different format than enigma2. Never had The GT media myself so I don't know anything about it.

  • I ended up just using the "secret menu" in this cheapo satfinder (like $38 on aliexpress, sometimes cheaper) to open and export the softcam.key from it, and those "auto ecm keys" are all it has from the factory, and they're just PV keys from what I can tell, I think EMM but if not, I guess it just tries all of those in sequence?

It has the ability to accept more keys, but just this setup is somehow enough for it to autoroll, so I suspect that list may be known "common" and default keys pehaps, considering they're using 0000 for all of them, with a slot 0 and slot 1? Format is weird:

Those are ecm keys. If the handheld has emm keys they may be built in the emu and hidden but I am not sure.

  • Formatting the key file to be unique for a given transponder. Sometimes even an individual SID in one. Is necessary. A "P 0000 00 XXXXXXXXXXXXXX" , etc. won't allow autoroll to work so well. Look at Rambohack's file.
The hash method does a good job usually. But it and the older method of key formatting also can help.
If you don't tune to a tp and watch a video stream, keys cannot update.
I'm disallowing your sat finder because I don't have nor ever have used one.

Not sure if everyone will jump out and reveal the methods they use to get keys. The Last Drakkar to log and pvhe along with a pretty robust nvidia card with great cuda core performance is a plus on a Windows pc. A dvb card and software plus a very good pc might be a plus.
On the linux end of it. I'm a bit in the fog. Although I've learned the in's and out's pretty good on my receivers with the hepl of Jenseneverest and a few others.

As for the suggestion to ditch ncam for oscam-emu. I would guess ncam as well as oscam versions are tailored to use cards.
But ncam gives a whole lot of crap that if you're cardless. You don't need. You can edit the config files to not use them. Sure.
I use Mohammed's oscam-emu. He does a great job. If you look in the configs you will see that he also provides his own key file that resides in:
    /var/volatile/tmp/.oscam/mohamed
Volatile being the thing. If his keys aren't updated. Or you don't snag them and edit them into your own keys file. If you reboot your box or restart oscam. They're gone.......I 'think'.

So when watching a channel on your sat finder, do you get channels that are black and then after a few minutes pop in?
If so then an autoroll algorithm is built into it. And the same will happen on your receiver. Sometimes in a few minutes, a half hour. Or longer. Or never.
For 'the never' thing. Take 127W 4100 H. I find if I don't watch a channel on it for a few days. The key dies.
Even grabbing the last data for it at the end of the key file and editing the 'keeper' lines above. Nothing.
Housekeeping your key file is needed. If you don't watch channels on other satellites for a period. It's possible for the keys to get so old that they don't autoroll anymore.

BTW. I need an ASC-1. If it sparks the interest of anyone. Don't care if the relays are flaky. As long as it if fully functional.

  • Anybody have working keys for 4100 H on 127W? That's BBC NA HD S2 - however none of the keys I have found or tried work.

I guess if I need to I can learn how to dump the EMM and run pvhe (or if you have any linux specific tools that do the same let me know) to find it.

And as Supwiddis says in his post above you, every time I go by it, it has changed. It's not a channel I watch, but I do channel surf from time to time, so I wind up on BBC NA at times. And if I leave it on the channel long enough it will pop on. It may take a few minutes, it may take forever minutes? But it always pops on eventually. It looks like the last time I visited was April 29...

    Good luck..!!!!

Also, if it doesn't work within 30 minutes, look at the group number your receiver is using, if different from mine, change it to whatever yours is and try again. If both yours and my group number is the same, then just leave it on the channel (if you have patience) and it should pop on sooner or later..???

  • That worked, but I find adding their group hash seems to be easier to make it work.

Thank you very much! I did have to adjust group number, but:

  • I'm guessing it has to do with the 5G NR rollover. I'm guessing the sub-4ghz NA transponders will eventually be switched to other higher frequencies or disabled as stuff gets rearranged to fit the new bands...since Verizon is taking over a chunk of the c-band.
