i feel a little dumb , i am trying to carry out some basic tasks and my head is starting ache 
1 i am trying to telenet my box , i use to use Dreambox control centre but now i am trying to use PUTTY , cant even connect .
When/if i get connected i would like to add my VPN and also i have an APK file i would like to install .
i have the latest openVix installed .

Put the box ip address where i typed "enter box ip address here" then press enter.
User = root
Enter the password you previously used with DCC.
Pretty simple to use really 
Have you confirmed teh Ip address on box in the receiver's network menu, adapter settings
Permission denied usually means you are trying to connect with the wrong credentials or there is an anti virus/firewall program blocking access.

you actually need to go to stb and set password in network settings.
You are talking about two different things. For FTP, you must set a password. You cannot FTP without a password. For issuing commands, you can log in without a password if you have not set one. Once you set a password, you must log in with the password you set.
Post a picture of error you get on Putty, also post a picture of settings you have used to connect to it. Sometimes people forget to click on the Telnet option.
Set a password in the network menu, that should allow FTP access.
Not quite the pictures we needed. On receiver, access the network menu, then the adapter settings. You don't need to obscure your lan IP address ( 192.168. xx. xx) it is only accessible on your home network. Vix does not show your WAN IP address.
On Putty, we would like to double check the settings you have used.
The ping failure (if you have entered correct IP address) is of concern. Once we confirm with your pictures, it will be a firewall issue or maybe your VPN settings stopping connectivity.

will post requested pics later , but 1st i will boot up my old PC and try with that as the one i have been using has been debloated to get rid of lots of M/Soft crap .

If you need to transfer an ipk to the box so you can install it, you need and FTP client. for example, Filezilla, winscp. Alternativley, you can enable samba on the box and your receiver will show up on your home network
the file i have is an APK , is it not possible to install this ?
No, that extension is for android, it won`t install on an enigma2 device.

I think that is error caused by downloading via phone can't remember if it renames zip to apk or ipk to apk if the file was originally a .zip on link you downloaded from then unpack it if it was ipk then rename it from apk to ipk

Don`t think its the same issue. The only problem file type on mobile was an .ipk ended in .deb. It didn`t affect any other type of extension.
