**Feature Request: Enhancements for Flash Online Tools in Enigma2 **

The Flash Online Tool utility in Enigma2 is a highly valuable feature for downloading and installing new images. To further enhance its functionality and improve the user experience, I would like to propose the following suggestions:

    1. **Multi-Image Download Option**

Could an option be added to allow users to select and download multiple images simultaneously? This would streamline the process and save time, especially for users managing multiple configurations or testing different images.

    2. **Multi-Image Installation Feature**

Adding the ability to install multiple images in one operation would be highly beneficial. This would be particularly useful when setting up a new SD card or HDD, as users often need to install several images at once.

    3. **Automatic Transfer of Common User Files**

Could an option be implemented to automatically copy essential user files (e.g., `fstab`, `autonetwork.xml`, etc.) during the installation process? This would ensure that mounting points, network storage configurations (e.g., NAS), and other critical settings are seamlessly transferred to the new image.

    4. **Group File Patching and Configuration Settings**

Is it possible to introduce settings that allow users to patch or copy groups of files (e.g., binaries, config files) across multiple images listed in the MultiBoot Manager? This would simplify the management of shared configurations and reduce repetitive manual tasks.

Your continued support and dedication to improving Enigma2 are greatly appreciated. I believe these enhancements would make the Flash Online Tools utility even more efficient and user-friendly.

Thank you for considering these suggestions.

    Best regards,

  • Response:

    1. Multi-Image Download & Installation (Points 1 & 2):

After downloading an image, users can simply go back and select additional images to download and install — all without needing to reboot. This functionality has been in place for a long time and works reliably. We currently see no need to change it.

    2. Automatic Transfer of Common User Files (Point 3):

Each image already includes a built-in backup and restore feature during the online flash process. This reliably restores key settings like fstab, autonetwork.xml, and others. Additionally, the Backup Manager allows users to define extra files to be included in their backups. This method has been used by all users for years and is fully sufficient.

    3. Group File Patching and Configuration (Point 4):

Patching binary files as part of the update process — for example, to support cloning — is overly complex and not something we plan to implement directly. Each user has the flexibility to create their own script for such purposes. In fact, this functionality already exists:

If you place a file at

      /media/xxx/images/config/myrestore.sh

it will be executed automatically after flashing an image as part of the restore process. You can include any binary patches or copy commands you need in that script.

  • Thanks Captain for your detailed response, please let me clarify my thoughts in another way.

    Multi-Image Download & Installation (Points 1 & 2):

Here I suggest to add queue function to download process, user can decide to start single download process like what we have now or add it to queue with another files to download it one time with one click.

Automatic Transfer of Common User Files (Point 3):

Here I suggest to transfer specific system settings during the installation process itself without the needs to restore image backup, why I have to make image backup file for 10 images just to restore my

    - Network settings and password

    - Mount Points and NAS....etc

    - Language selection

    - Location....time settings

    - HDMI and resolution settings.

The above settings should copied from the current image to the new image during the installation process itself.

There are no needs to make repeated backup/restore process for separate images.

Anyway, it were thoughts to share, may be logic or not

  • However, you forgot to consider that settings can't simply be transferred 1:1 from Image A to Image B. There are sometimes major differences—for example, between OpenVIX and OpenATV, or DreamOS and OpenE2. Inexperienced users can easily break more than they gain this way. And honestly, no one installs ten different images at once—maybe you do, but nobody else does.

You are correct, but these features already available in some multboot plugins, I wonder if you can add it.

By the way, usage of multiple images is very common not only for testing use but multboot option Open the door to install many images on same box as common behavior.

Again, it was just thoughts to share and appreciate your inputs.

Exactly what input can I add , I have tried to take shortcuts between images openatv , vix , and openBH , trying to transfer settings.

Even asked at one time if a converter could be made no not possible, to many changes between images.

even manually editing settings file yes some things can be edited but at the end of the day just each install from scratch then no problems.

And as you mentioned openatv with flash online with restore setting , and ipk folder in images folder and config folder with myrestore.sh works wonders :)

  • I think changing the methodology may be working as work around.

Please find attached my excutable file which made by ajpanel, it successfully working with all known OS images, again all os images

It include my settings such as ( please don't execute it on your device)

    fstab settings

Mount Points much as NAS, HDD...etc

The idea is simple, picked up group of files and preserve it's path in .tar.gz file.

I was planning to add more or make a script with help of AI to add more settings to it, but I passed the idea to Captain may be he interest in it.

Feature Enhancement Suggestions for FlashOnline Tool in Enigma2 (Part 2)

Thank you for your continuous efforts in improving the Enigma2. Your support and responsiveness to user feedback are greatly appreciated. Below are additional suggestions to further enhance the tool’s functionality and user experience:

    1. **Custom Download Location**

Currently, the tool automatically detects the default image folder on the device. However, adding an option to set a **custom download path** (e.g., NAS or shared HDD) would provide greater flexibility, especially for users managing multiple installations or limited internal storage.

    2. **Automatic Cleanup of ZIP Files**

An option to **delete downloaded ZIP files after installation** would be beneficial for users with limited storage. This feature could be toggleable in the settings to accommodate different user preferences.

    3. **Improved ofgwrite Progress Display**

The current **ofgwrite progress screen** is quite large and centered, which can obstruct visibility during installation. Suggesting the following improvements:

    - Reduce the size and thickness of the progress bar.

    - Replace it with a **sleeker gauge or circular progress indicator** displaying a percentage in the center.

This would minimize screen interference, allowing users to continue watching their content uninterrupted.

    4. **Selective Language Installation**

To optimize storage and installation speed, could the tool allow users to **select only their preferred language** during image installation? Extracting all language files consumes unnecessary space and time, whereas users typically require only one. Additional languages could still be downloaded later via the image feed if needed.

These enhancements would significantly improve usability, efficiency, and resource management. Thank you for considering these suggestions—I look forward to seeing future updates!

    Hello Captain

When I mute the STB volume using the MUTE button, the next channel is louder again. It was the same with the 7.6 Alpha and the 7.6 Beta.

My device is a GigaBlue QuadPlus HD.
