Settings File

  • I'm just using the Freesat EPG to download TV and radio channels, which works fine. I've put my GigaBlue UHD Quad 4K on a plugin diet and removed EPGImport and OpenTV plugins. I see in the settings file that there are a number of entries reflecting the deleted plugins:

    config.plugins.autotimer.show_help=False

    config.plugins.epgimport.longDescDays=7

    config.plugins.epgimport.showinextensions=False

    config.plugins.epgimport.wakeup=17:50

    config.plugins.epgsearch.history=['Shakespeare & Hathaway - Private Investigators', 'Secrets of Supermarket Buyers', "The Apprentice: You're Hired!"]

    config.plugins.epgsearch.history_length=10

    config.plugins.epgsearch.numorbpos=0

    config.plugins.extra_epgimport.last_import=Thu Apr 17 14:46:33 2025, 47747

    config.plugins.filebrowser.path_left=/media/hdd/

    config.plugins.filebrowser.path_right=/hdd/

    config.plugins.opentvzapper.nextscheduletime=1745167800

    config.plugins.opentvzapper.notifications=True

    config.plugins.opentvzapper.scheduleshutdown=False

    config.plugins.opentvzapper.scheduletime=17:50

    config.plugins.opentvzapper.update_interval=3

    So I have a few Qs:

    1. Will the box automatically rebuild the settings file and not include the now redundant epgimport and opentvzapper lines?

    2. Or shall I delete the lines manually?

    3. Or shall I delete the complete settings file and let the box rebuild a new settings file at shut down?

    from telnet too

    command

  • Sorry. Straight over my head!! But is that just add the slashes etc to the existing lines??

    But I'm happy with the autotimer plugin line.

    no you copy contents and telnet into box and paste contents

    if you want to manually edit settings file then you still need to telnet into box and init 4 to stop enigma2

    then edit settings file and save then init 3 to restart enigma2

    you need to edit settings file because entries are not removed when you remove plugins.

    you took care of those configurations I gave you the solution.

    just mention what you want to eliminate, remove from the commands what is not needed. However if you use autotimer the config recreates its line.

  • OK. Unix is all pretty foreign to me.

    So, I connected to box with OpenWebif. Opened Terminal and connected to box with login and password.

    I then pasted those lines into Terminal and hit enter.

    Was that correct? Except I've probably mucked up the autotimer line - but hopefully that will recompile.

    Filezilla let me copy the enigma2 files before to my PC HDD but won't now.

  • Yes, I've been using the same password in everything. And I had managed to copy files from box to PC before - including the secretive settings file.

    The copy and paste of those lines seems to have done something. From the set boot time, 1740, to the LCD screen appearing has reduced from 1m7s to 28s.

    And it appears that FreesatEPG is downloading/updating in the first 5 or 6 minutes as the 7th days programmes are present. The HDD then goes quieter before ABM runs at 1750.

    RTC must be working in DS - at the RTC update there is only a 1s difference after being in DS for over 18 hours.

    All in all decluttering the numbers of processes running seems to have made quite a difference.

    Fingers crossed as it will be left in DS for the weekend to record programmes.

  • CRMS , I hope if you pasted those line via webif terminal that was ok you did not copy settings file via ftp and edit on pc and copied it back with out init 4 before edit and init 3 after edit because enigma2 caches settings file and your changes will not have been saved.

  • De-cluttering your plugins will potentially have an effect on the speed of your box.
    But cleaning up your settings file will have zero effect. Its purely cosmetic. It can be 100 lines long or 1000 lines long. No difference in noticeable speed.

    These values are used solely by the plugin that references and reads them. If the plugin has been removed then that value is not getting read by anything.

    The correct procedure as already mentioned above by urie, is you need to stop enigma2, edit the settings file. Start enigma2.

    init 4

    ** edit file
    init 3

    Anything that starts with config.plugins. can be removed if you want. And next time you run that plugin, if you change any default settings, they will get re-added in here.

    I would leave everything else in the settings file untouched. And definitely do not delete the whole file.

  • If you want further speed up your box.
    If you haven't done so already, create a swapdisk to help with memory load.
    Also install cache flush plugin will help clear out bloated memory and keep things running along smoothly.

    You don't say what image your are using. But I describe the process of how I setup my box in my openatv setup guide. The same principles can be used with any image.
