I would restart the process, it does not take long.
Are you sure its properly online.

Agree with richard_t, sounds like you are not connected to the internet.Start from the beginning the whole process should tale less than an hour.

can i re-start was wondering as i had problem with my crappy bt home hub 2 think may of accidentally re-set it, how do i get out of this set up to check connectivity ??
-
Are you not connected to hub by your lappy? If not use the lan wire to connect to lappy and router and check.
You can always power off the server and start again.

If you try installing debian with the graphical install it will list the connections it can use, if you dont see your wireless card listed it means it will have to be installed after the rest has installed. This means you will have to go wired and install the wireless drivers, if you dont have a desktop and are just using command line this will be very difficult.. Wireless isnt the best option for a server anyway.
