Hi, I have a dm800hd clone with the 2.01 sim, iv been thinking of upgrading them sim to a ferrari sim or some newer type of sim. Apparently if I upgrade this I will be able to run offical dm images, is this correct? If so is there a real stability and performance increase. What are the offical dm images like?

Sim 2.01 will quite happily run latest patched images.
GjSTroom's images are quite popular.

A8p is the sims name? Do they only work in dm800se's ? Is there anything on my dm800hd clone I can upgrade to make more stable hardware wise?

No A8P sim available for Dm800 m8
But IMO this is the most stablest image for sim2 clone Dm800 ATM

I'm not 100% sure if I am, how can I confirm.
Currently If I go to menu and information then about I get;
Sim2_ssl84b_by- dat4fun-team.
I'm assuming this is an outdated version in running?

Switch off receiver then push the power on button as you switch receiver back on ok
& wait till STOP appears in The display! as it boots it will show the ssl you are using..okAlso Your receiver at this point is in flash-mode.
If now needed using IE browser, send in the bootloader ssl84b then when done, click back the browser & then flash new image, when completed reboot = done ;-) -
