  • hi stevenlee1981,

For a good FREE a/v i use Avast FREE antivirus. Its very good detection wise, free(obviously lol ) and updates in the background with minimal effort required from your good self.
I run this side by side with Microsoft security essentials and use windows firewall. If you are behind a router (which is fairly likely) chances are you already have a hardware firewall protecting you to a certain extent.

Another good program i like to use is Ccleaner for securely deleting junk files etc.

I tend to stay away from programs that suggest tuning up or the like, they are normally more hassle than beneficial (only my opinion) You are better keeping a clean backup of your data & OS if possible and doing a full HDD format every 6 months for optimum performance.

Hope some of this helps you out, id have posted direct links but not sure if forum rules allow it :) Some of the other lads here will no doubt give you some further/alternative suggestions, they are great here.

See ya around the forums bud

  • thanx for than mate, ive just put on Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware pro and going put on ESET Smart Security to see what there are like

    thanx ste

i use eset smart security and malwarebytes anti malware and never had any probs i also got on firefox adblock plus and noscript. noscript might get abit annoying but after your sites aloud permission all good. before using them i always had spyware

  • No keygen included get a free trial from them and see if you like it,personally anti virus software is one of very few types of software i will actually pay for being such a key part of any pc setup

  • If you want to 'tune' your pc up, id suggest running cc cleaner, getting rid of the unecessary files that have built up.

Then if you click on tools -> startup and see whats starting when your pc boots, i usually disable all mine except for anti virus, sound card drivers. your setup will be slightly different. Also delete all but the last restore, in the system restore section.

After that remove any programs you dont want.

Then go to start -> run (if you have it), type services.msc, now do not remove any of these unless you know what you are doing but if any stand out, then disable them or set them to manual.

Finally defrag your hard drive and you should be, running somewhat better.
