That depends on what exactly you want from the receiver and your price range.

If for example your more interested in feed hunting and getting those very hard to tune channels a E2 box is probably not the way to go, look towards the non linux TM range or the Dr HD- F15 or F16.

personally my Vu's have never let me down and get every thing i need, as do my TM Twin and TM 2T.

There is no difference between the ET9000 and ET9200 if it's the ET9200 SL or silverline edition then it has the hardware fault on tuner B fixed but other than that all boxes in the ET9x00 range are pretty much identical.

if your using a Build prior to 519 it is not recommended that you use the online update feature due to several changes that have been made. you need to flash to a image after build 519 then you can again resume using the online update feature, you can also use the backup manager to backup and restore your settings etc, so flashing a new image will only take a few minutes.

If you have performed a online update from build 519 or lower to one of the newer builds it can and will cause instabilities ( all of this is in the changelogs that i post by the way ).

There is no bootloader update at all for the Vu Uno and loading one that is not compatible such as that of a Duo is by far the quickest and easiest way to permantly kill the receiver.

Forgive my ignorance on that, you are correct, but can't tell the difference between USB and HDD so I don't see an advantage either way. Maybe I was getting confused with picons, but feel free to correct me if I am wrong on that one too! I like being wrong sometimes, it is all part of learning

The EPG as i pointed out is only read from or written to at bootup and shutdown, once it's up and running it is held in live memory so it's fine to save the EPG to any where but the internal flash. picons on the other hand are accessed constantly during channel changes and EPG searches etc and therefore it is not advised to use a HDD to store these as the HDD would never sleep causing upto a 4 or 5 second zap time, if you have enough space on the internal flash for picons it's perfectly safe and highly recommended to use this location for them.

dont like the fact that it switches to a radio station when downloading epg....

well at risk of inviting the trolls that lurk in these here parts, thats something thats currently being looked into, also why not just set the download to a time when your not going to be watching tv like early in the morning.

personally i dont use rytek i use CrossEPG with the OpenTV sources for 28.2 east and have never had a problem with that setup in nearly 2 years with 6 different receivers.

How many sources are you using for the EPG and how exactly is it setup ?, remember that the EPG is a very resource hungry application especially when used with low memory receivers such as the solo and Duo.

I had it saved to media/hdd, what do u meen by manually grab and how do I no if my channel list is upto date?

keep the EPG saved to the HDD, this is by far the best possible location for it, however it may be prudent to delete the existing EPG.dat file incase of corruption then re-download it. note that you must first kill enigma via a telnet session before deleting the EPG.dat file because as its held in live memory it will be re-generated from the existing data held in enigmas memory.

Firstly it is much better to store your EPG data on a USB stick, a couple of reasons, if it is stored on HDD, then this increases power usage, as it will power down less as you are accessing it more frequently, and the opposite effect is if it is already powered down, then it takes time to wake up to display the EPG. using a USB flash will sort that out. You can manually grab your EPG rather than waiting for it to update as per timer by pressing the blue button the the remote and select CrossEPG downloader - should then go through a process of reading summeries, processing and loading, (which you will see working). If you have your epg set to grab OpenTV 28.2e, this should give you a full 7 day epg - where the internet based rytec only gives you 5, and can have more problems.

Rather than knowing if your channel list is up to date, you are better off doing updates every few days, to keep it up to date. If you are using the latest ViX then go to menu -setup - service searching - autobouquetsmaker - and you can schedule regular scans to keep it up to date without having to do it manually. Ensure you don't clash this with the epg update schedule.

as per my reply above, once the EPG data is initially loaded ( at bootup time ), it is then held in live memory regardless of where the EPG.dat file is saved to. personally i would recommend the HDD as the best location for EPG data with the USB a close second, as the HDD will never spin up no matter how much you draw upon the EPG via daily use.

As musogeek has pointed out ,,by saving it to media/usb you will save the hdd from forever spinning,
to manually grab it could be either move the epg.dat file/folder to media/usb or to force download it to refresh it.
if you are using a ready made bouquet settings such as catseye; go to the end of the list and it will tell you the date
or go through TSpanel if you have it and you can see it in packages .

    no thats not quite correct.

EPG data once loaded is held in live memory in the same way as channel lists or bouquets, the only place not recommended to save the EPG to is the internal flash in case it corrupts as it will fill the flash in no time requiring the receiver to be reflashed.

i have genuine vu+solo, use rytec epg or opentv providers, i like opentv providers epg, but dont like the fact that when its downloading the epg, it swtches to a radio channel and stays on there until epg is loaded, made me miss lots of goals when watching footy, went back to rytec epg..which loads epg yet you can still still watch the tv..

Thats why you auto schedule the EPG to download during the night or early morning, but that may be a thing of the past soon ( cant say much more yet but some thing is being looked at in this area rite now ).

I only wanted VIX because of the EPG... if there is just as good EPG on the BH 1.78 then I will just keep that..

no it does not necessarily mean its a bad box, contrary to belief these so called clones of clones tend to be better quality than the ferrari versions and can run the newer images without the so called security update. If its running BH 1.7.8 there should be nothing to stop it running the latest ViX 3.0 builds, so try one of those instead of 2.4.

if it has a blue L.E.D then as far as i know its not a ferrari clone so V1, V2, V3 have no bearing on it.

The OE-Alliance proudly present the OE-Alliance AutoBouquetsMaker.

This is a totally new piece of software similar in function to LraiZers Autobouquets plugin but with a few differences as follows.

Included in the ViX image from Build 514 onwards and accessible via Menu> Setup> Service Searching> AutoBouquetsMaker.

coded from the ground up in C+ and Python which makes it exceptionally fast ( takes around 60 to 80 seconds for a full scan of *** uk / freesat ). There is no need to make any kind of service scan prior to launching the plugin and because of this it can be used from a totally Virgin install.

At present the plugin supports 15 service providers as follows, with work still ongoing to include more where possible.

    AustriaSat 19.2 East
    Canal Digitaal HD 19.2 East
    Canal Digitaal SD 19.2 East
    Czech Republic 23.5 East
    Freesat 28.2 & 28.5 East
    Mobistar FR 19.2 East
    Mobistar NL 19.2 East
    *** Italy 13.0 East
    *** UK 28.2 & 28.5 East
    Sl***k Republic 23.5 East
    TéléSATHD 19.2 East
    TéléSAT SD 19.2 East
    TVSat 13.0 East
    TV Vlaanderen HD 19.2 East
    TV Vlaanderen SD 19.2 East

The plugin will where available use a free tuner for it's scans allowing you to continue to watch live TV with very little interruption other than a spinner and a very brief progress bar. If a free tuner is not found as in the case of a single tuner receiver it will take control of that tuner while still retaining it's very fast scan time allowing you to manually update your scan during say a advert break, or if you choose you can use the Auto Schedule feature to set a scan for any time of the day or night.

Also included is a .ipk installer as built by a third party not affiliated with the ViX image or OE-Alliance. As this plugin is built for the OE-Alliance git i am not 100% certain if it will also work with other image architecture but as with all OE-A work it is Open Source for others to use and adapt as needed providing that the source credits are not removed, edited or otherwise tempered with.

no it's only for enigma2 systems and i cant release it yet. it's a joint work by ViX and SifTeam for the OE-Alliance but as one of the developers working on it has taken ill it's been put on hold, although i can say that it is almost ready.

In it's current state the plugin supports 15 providers throughout 13 east, 19.2 east, 23.5 east and 28.2 east ( with more being worked on ). it is written totally in C+ and python so it's fast and i do mean fast ( a full scan of 28.2 east takes under 2 minutes ( closer to 1 but i have not timed it ), Thats about all i can say at the moment but i will make a formal announcement as and when it;s ready to go.

well as the user who requested to be kept updated has since been banned my reply is likely pointless but i'll do it any way incase any one else in interested,

The OE-alliance AutoBouquetsMaker has now been launched with the ViX image from build 513 and upwards, It wil also be included in the other OE-A member teams images who want to use it.

The plugin can be accessed from Menu> Setup> Service Searching> AutoBouquetsMaker. Now even though this plugin is a complete new piece of software and coded from the ground up in C+ and python, you may have to remove any similar plugins from your receiver first as they may not work well together.

I have screenshots but cant include them as the server here wont allow me to upload them unless i rar them up into a archive due to their size.
