The solo2 is a very good choice but there are also many very good linux boxes that fit the things you want but cheaper it all depends on how much you wish to spend but as you see i use xtrend and there are very good offers on the xtrend range now but also you mentioned Technomate and there are some models that fit what you require i suppose your problem is narrowing it down to one box

I like the look of Xtrend so it is good to hear from a user who likes them. I like the look of the ET8000 as I could easily add a 3rd LNB connection. My daughter records so much TV it may just suit.

    Thanks

The image will be your most important choice here buddy if you want it to be family user friendly..... what image are you currently using??? Openvix in my own opinion is without a doubt the most user friendly there is....

Regards sharing a cline from your duo2 to this second box, well that depends on whether this is a line created from your own server or do you want to reshare a line that you have from a peer? in this case you would need to ask your peer if this is ok or ask them if they are willing to give you a second line......

I am now using OpenViX and I like it; my favourite image having tried quite a few. I pay for the C-line so I will just pay for a second to save the aggravation.

    Thanks

    Hi all

I hope this is in the correct place, I apologise if not, I am sure a MOD will relocate it.

I have a VU+ Duo 2 and am over the moon with it. I now need a second box for the family but I am concerned if a Linux based box is the way to go. I will list what I need

It should have dual input and the ability to record, preferably internal HDD. I know that these days HDMI comes as standard on most boxes. I am happy to get a Solo 2 but I am concerned my wife (especially) and my daughter will not be able to operate it and so simply give up. They are used to "other" providers!! It's a hobby for me and I am happy to learn new things but my wife just wants to switch on the TV and watch or record the channels she likes.

I have used a Technomate 5402-HD M2 and it was okay, I still have a 5402 HD M3 but it's single input so not suitable.

Bouquets could be created easy enough so they get BBC1 HD, local, ITV C4 C5 etc and I will hope they don't change the channel listing too often.

Should I go Solo 2 or look at a non-Linux box?

    Thanks

PS Could I share a Cline from my Duo 2 or is that not allowed?

    Hi all

Well once again I will say thank you to all involved. I setup the box as described and it now works exactly as described on the tin...so to speak :20_003:

I know I was a bit slow at getting it all completed but I have so much going on at the moment it is untrue! Anyway I have learned a lot and saved myself some money so life is good!

    Hi again

I have connected via Telnet to the box and added my son as a user and given him a secure password.....well there was no complaint saying "bad password".

How do I now give my son secure access to the Duo2. It does connect from outside from my Network but I am not sure how to ensure it requests his username and password when he starts a new session

    Hi

It seems you have some great answers from others more knowledgeable than me but I would add one point. I had this happen to me on my VU+ Zero and it drove me mad! I use this box on my travels and the fault was a bad f-connector on the lnb input. I remade the connection and it worked! Could be worth checking.

Thanks guys! I have sorted it now and it works like a charm. I'm away on business today so I tested it via the hotel wifi and my iPhone. A brief audio stutter but it soon settled.

My son will be over the moon, you've all made his life a little bit better and we are both truly thankful!

    Hi to all

Well I am obviously doing something wrong because I cannot get VLC to connect to the STB. I assumed, perhaps incorrectly, I would use http://mydynsname.org:myport

I would forward the relevant port in my router (which I have done) then when I use that URL:Port I would be able to connect by "Open Network Stream" in VLC

I have clearly done something wrong.

My VU+Duo2 has a fixed IP, my No-Ip account is up and running correctly but it doesn't want to play ball :59:

Should I forward the HTTP HTTPS and transcode ports to the Duo2? I have forwarded all of them which could be an error?

Please can someone help out an idiot like me?

    Thanks

    CC

Well once again I want to thank everyone for their input. :thumb:

I was thinking about this last night and think I have worked it out. Davvo confirmed my thoughts.

I will ensure my no-ip is setup correctly, that should be easy enough. I will then open a port to forward to my Duo2 for the streaming and I assume another for the transcoding? I will try with and without transcoding to see how it varies.

I then give my son http://no-ip.ccvuduo.org:Port number* and he should be able to use it his end. I will check on creating an m3u list.

*not my dyndns just an example and I will change the default port for security

    Does that seem about right?

    Cheers

Not sure what would do more than what you have - a basic PC/laptop would work. I guess it also depends on how simple the solution needs to be.

What you really need to find out first is, how is the network connection between your office and his room? If the connection is not that great, no hardware is going to work well. And it is not just about speed, it also depends on quality - high speed but with lots of temporary interruptions will make watching quite annoying. I guess first thing I would do (after setting up the box in your office) is to take a laptop (or decent tablet) to his room and see if streaming without transcoding works and if not, what is the best transcoding settings that can be used.

If it works well without transcoding, one option is to use another sat box and there is a function to share a remote box's tuner. But it was really designed for use within a local network, and I am not sure how well it would work across the internet...

Thanks again. He's pretty okay with technical stuff but with 150 miles between him and me I know he will panic slightly when we're trying to set it up. His internet is lightning fast, actually faster than the 160 mbps I have in my office! It has only failed once with a 20 second outage so that should be okay; fingers crossed!

I was first thinking of (this is probably a swear word on here!) a Slingbox because it's easy to use and does what it says on the tin. I managed to set one up years ago when I was travelling on business and it worked okay. At the moment it costs me £31 per month for him to get Sly Sports from Now TV so at £129 for a Slingbox M1 I'll be ahead of the game, forgive the pun, after 4 months.

Thank you so much for taking time to reply I really do appreciate it.

I have a No-IP account which was never used - long story. I can use that for the IP address just in case it does change. What does my son need at his end? I setup a Roku 3 for him so he can watch my Plex server and that works well. I am not sure if there is an app for Roku that would connect to the Duo2? I will get onto Mr Google now and ask him :thumb:

Great people on this site, thank you again :14_002:

    Hi

I have a Duo 2 all setup in my office and I am absolutely delighted with it. I have not tried the streaming option yet, mainly because I didn't need it but now things have changed.

My son has gone off to Uni and he has autism. One of his ways to relax is to be alone in his room and watch TV. The campus halls do not have a TV aerial, satellite etc so streaming is the only option. I tried an aerial but the reception is poor and he cannot get digital channels. Can I setup remote access to my Duo 2 so he can watch what he wants? It will mainly be evenings and weekends so I will not need to use the Duo 2 during those times.

If it's possible how should I go about it?

    Many thanks

Convert C or N line to a [reader] with CCcam2Oscam then add to oscam.server file. You also need to use oscam.conf and oscam.user configured for dvbapi.

Which receiver and image are you using ?

    Hi MasterG

Sorry to jump in on an old thread.

I would like to use Oscam instead of my CCCam in the hope it will allow 2 scrambled channels on PiP. I am using Duo2 on ViX 3.20 and HD Blue skin. I can PiP BBC1 and BBC2 but as soon as I try Scambled 1 and Scrambled 2 it all fails and one is just a black screen.

Is there is a "how to" guide on converting the CCcam (I have used your converter) and it seems okay. I am not sure how to now get OSCAM and enter the correct details so I can run it on my Duo2. You may tell me it will not help but I would also like to learn about Oscam.

    Thanks in advance

    Hi to all

I hope I am posting this in the correct area, please forgive me if I am not!

I am happy with my own personal setup of a couple of VU+ Zeros and a Technomate. However a family member has shown an interest and he wants to setup a home media system in his new house. He will look at a VU+ for lounge and bedroom and then getting picture feeds to other areas of the house. It is a big 5 bedroom detached house so he is planning cables etc.

He loves films, new and old so he was looking at a Kodi android box. Is this available on a VU+ Solo 2 or another box like Mut@nt and how does it compare to a dedicated Android box?

He has set a budget of around £600 for hardware, he has all the TVs ready for use.

What is the best way to approach this?

    Thanks to all

I just purchased the VU+ Zero from WOS, my first venture in Linux receivers. The sale was a dream, they emailed me as soon as they received my order, updated me when it was picked and shipped. This morning, Postman Pat was knocking on my door!

    Brilliant service WOS!

It's taking some time to get it all setup as I want but I knew there would be a learning curve.

    Thank you!

Ahh, if i was only in your shoes, with the top speed of a duo 2 or the advantages of e2bmc with a mutant.
All i can say is i'm envious. Really envious.
Must'ave been a good boy all year...

It has been a tough year to be honest but I have been placed on the nice list! :20_003:

I tried quite a few and yes, they pretty much all glitch. Although some are better than others, so all I suggest is that if you stick to the pay route try as many as possible and then select the best. The one thing that I have noticed is that the amount of glitching does vary depending on the receiver. My HTPC is virtually glitch free on a cline which gave lots of glitching with my Spiderbox and Technomate receivers.

PS: I've seen that username on another forum I use. I don't suppose that you have an interest in 'bulls'?

THanks for the reply, I am going to upgrade the box soon. I have no interest on bulls so must be another West Country guy!

Well having considered my options I have decided to go along the following route. Although I am familiar (kind of) with Linux I am not familiar with E2 in satellite receivers. I have ordered the VU+ Zero from WOS and will set it up and have some fun exploring it. I want to learn more about IPTV and the E2 addons so this is a starting point for me.

If that works out, I am sure it will, then I will put the Zero in my son's room and order the Duo 2 for me!

What do you expect from pay servers. They pack as many people as they can on their server for profit, their not for a stable freeze free experience for their customer..

You should look into card sharing instead of using pay servers, then you will find small, stable and virtually freeze free personal / private servers.

That's why I asked the question, they all seem to freeze and are basically crap.

    - - - Updated - - -

you need a private server mate...rock solid and relaible..none of these ones that advertise on well known sites etc...

Well I am obviously new into this field so I will have to look into more reliable methods. I am just trying to decide on Duo2 or Mut@nt from WOS and then I can look at better methods.

    Thanks for the replies
