why dont you try out one the fantastic new range of BACKUPS ,
,they have everything already setup so you dont have to,,then once you feel comfortable with using the remote control, FTP,TELNET,
then you can try out all the images to see which suits you best,,,images are of personal taste so each one has their own..
flashing is the same for all images ..
you can read that in so many numerous posts already written and answered in this vu+ support section

to permit any prog to go through firewall ,depending on which Os you are using ..
mine is w7 so you can either uninstall the DCC version that you have then restart pc then reinstall DCC ,this will then trigger the firewall which will ask you if you want to permit or not..
OR...... -menu- control panel - system + security - firewall -permit a programme.
go in find the prog ( DCC for example ) then permit by ticking boxes.
Mine is in spanish so dont think there´s much point in taking a pic for you...

If you want help or suggestions then you need to give as much info as possible about your setup..

in DCC when you right click mouse on the CCcam.cfg you give it attributes 644.
Another silly thing that occurred to me was ¿ you do have the card in the right way???? lol

you should be able to see your own sub card channels.. or ¿ are you taking from other peers ?
network problems could only cause blackscreen if you are taking from peers not from your own sub..
BUt as client this shouldn´t affect your box viewing...
as you wrote you have reflashed many a time so you know the procedure..
the .cfg should chmod 644 ,the others 755..
I haven´t checked but I wonder if there´s a soft update needed..¿maybe use an earlier image version?
As I previously wrote I have never had this box so I can only go on what I have read from other users...

try something else as an alternative, instead of replacing the .config just edit the config already installed,
or
uninstall 2.3.0 version and go for a lower version like 2.2.1 then edit/replace the config with your own

there are a lot of reports that this method doesnt work 100% ..
so maybe a neighbour/friend/family member has another pc with com port would be much better..

in your browser : internalIP of the box:16001 ( 192.168.X.XX:16001 ) it should then ask you for user + password then you should be able to see if it is online.
Can you view any of your subscription channels? for that matter ¿can you view FTA channels??
