I have to say that for me the best image by far is the Commando Image, unfortunately like most I voted before I tried them all, lol.. I love the way that you don’t have to press a load of buttons to get into different bouquets, you just use the left and right (Volume keys) to select between Sports, Entertainment, Movies etc.. Its very user friendly & if you customise it to your needs I can nearly guarantee that you won’t use any other image. There are a load of Commando Images out there but the one I use is:

    http://linuxsat-support.com/dm…m500-release-renwich.html

I Tried the Commando 14.6 image but I found a lot of problems with it including:

    1.. Regular Freezing
    2.. Network DHCP issues
3.. Every time I tried to load the 14.6 image through DCC telnet it failed & I ended up having to use null modem cable to re load the image which proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I have 4x DM500’s running Commando 14.5 DM500 Release by renwich above & there are no problems to report.. Great image & well done to the creator’s.. I should add that I made a quiet a few changes to get it to work just right for my needs, installing cccam, Turning off epg loading at start up & changing around the channel categories for example but it was well worth it because it is a great image & in my opinion Commando 14.5 gets the most out of the limited hardware in the DM500.

Yeah M8, got the powered hub and my times have reduced dramatically. With another few tweaks I have them down to about 80 internally and my peers are getting about 150 - 170 off me so Im well happy with the results.. Thanks again m8..

Yeah realised that musogeek, typo by mrgmg.. Either way it was just trial and error for troubleshooting the problem of the Smargo Reader's Device address changing on reboot when using a powered USB Hub.. The problem was nothing to do with the oscam configs in the end m8..

Sorry m8, i got stuck into that for past 5 hours... I sorted it & locked Smargo Device address on restart so It's a permanent fix... I’ll write a tutorial later when I gather all the steps that I used... Need serious coffee break now.. Ecms dropped from over 270ms average to about 120-170. Oscam time to read card down from 150ms to between 70-95ms.. Well chuffed..

Here is the oscam.server file that I tried (just to see which device address showed up in oscam) which gave me all the oscam errors in last post:

I've been reading around the net and it seems like there is no permanent fix to the Smargo device address changing on reboot when using the powered Hub.. Its driving me mad now..

    Cheers M8

OK, tried above m8, no joy.. Getting this in oscam webif

    Any ideas anyone?

Do you think I should upgrade to a better box from this supplier bearing in mind my first box is only to test my server? What would u recommend

I'd agree 100% with cazuela but I’d also have to add that I think the DM500's are workhorses and extremely good value.. Of course you are limited by the hardware in these box’s but if you don’t need any of the fancy stuff (Recording etc..) the DM500 is perfect for the job and when you upgrade, they can go to the bedroom(s).

Right now I am using a DM500S in the sitting room and the picture quality is well above what I expected from SD Scart on my 50" HD Flatscreen. I am also saving for high spec box for the sitting room with Record, twin tuners, HD & all the rest and as caz says above, just keep reading up on specs while keeping a budget in mind.. I personally would not advise you to go way up market spending £000's on a box because there are real contenders for the dreambox title out there now for under €200. The VU+ Solo and Blade Media BM7000s to name but a few.

As you read up you will quickly see the pros & cons of each box but one thing is for sure there is great support for all these box's nowadays. I have 2x Openbox S9 arriving this week (I said I would give them a shot before I jumped up another £100 or so to the next level of Box’s). I will let you know how I get on with them and if they are much of an improvement on the DM500.

Anyway m8, Good luck with your venture and when you do get your Box/Box's make sure to let us know how they work out for you..

You could try flashing with this image "Erase Img 500-56x0" with the null modem cable:
    Erase Img 500-56x0.rar

If that works, I would suggest again Flashing your desired image with DreamUp
    DreamUP1.3.3.4.rar

I use this image on my DM500..
    http://linuxsat-support.com/dm…m500-release-renwich.html

Steps to follow when Flashing with Dreamup using null modem cable.

1.. Confirm your null modem cable port no. eg Com1, Com3 etc.. To do this open up Device manager, Go down to Ports section, There you should see your null modem cable Com number. Com**
    2.. Start up DreamUp 1.3.3.4
3.. Select your Port number retrieved in Step1
4.. Connect your unplugged DM500 to your Host PC with null modem cable.
    5.. Click Connect
    6.. Plug in your Dreambox
7.. Select Image & let it work away.

Could you also tell us what message you get in DreamUp window after Step 6 above..
If you get your DM500 back up and running with the null modem cable, I would suggest flashing with DreamBox-OptiFlasher-v1.0.2 addached Below..

Best of luck, Let me know how you got on.

Since you are only interested in this card your not going to be changing with other locals & this card will be pretty much unwatchable at hop3 so just do this

    Code:

    C: anyone.dyndns.org 12000 anyuser anypass no { 0:0:1, 0963:0:2 }

Thanks G, I know what you mean m8, but I actually started this exercise wanting to block only the Fake cards, so it would probably be a good tutorial for that but I admit the way I ended up blocking everything bar 0963, the obvious way would be to use your line above.. But Im sure that in a case where people have less CAID's to filter than they have to keep the exercise above might be usefull.. I just started sidetracking away from my point in the middle of writing it, LoL.

I were you i would look at getting a motor or multisat dish to make the most of the hobby.

Yeah, I intend to get at lease a multi LNB setup on my sat m8, so I'm sure I will be un-filtering sats that im interested in very soon..

    Thanks m8

I noticed as I picked up more peers, I was getting a lot of unwanted shares from unwanted providers. I'm sure a lot of you who use cccam as a server have come accross this, so here is quick tutorial to filter your clines of unwanted shares.. Before we start, here is what my cccam webif looked like on the shares Tab.

This was annoying to me as I was only interested in Sly UK. here is how to filter everything from your clines apart from (in this example) Sly UK 0963

    1... Open up your cccam.cfg
2... Select the cline that you want to filter
    e.g.

    Code
    C: someone.dyndns.org 12000 user password

    3... add

    Code
    no { 0:0:2, [COLOR='#FFFF00']0100[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR] }

to the end of the cline, where the 0100 is the provider you want to filter and the 0:0 means all services from this provider.
4... copy this format for all the providers that you want to filter from your clines
    e.g.

    Code
    C: someone.dyndns.org 12000 user password no { 0:0:2, [COLOR='#FFFF00']0100[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']0500[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']9c4[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']9cd[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']603[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']604[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']b00[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']baa[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']d05[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']1702[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']1802[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR],[COLOR='#FFFF00']1810[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR] ,[COLOR='#FFFF00']1830[/COLOR]:[COLOR='#FF0000']0:0[/COLOR] }

this now filters all providers from the above printout from cccam webif apart from the 0963 (Sly) that I am interested in.
    5... Save cccam.cfg

Now my cccam webif looks like this on the shares Tab.

As you can see, I filtered all except 0963 but you can filter what you want & keep what you want...

    Happy Sharing...

yeah, I'll give that a shot m8 thanks..

I cant test it till the wee hours but I'll update you on how it goes...

Thanks mrgmx, In a few weeks this won’t be a problem because hopefully everything will be permanent by then & there will be no need for reboot.. But until then I am trying to optimise the server & I am rebooting it at least once or twice a night and what you suggested would be an annoyance to say the least but if it has to be done, well so be it.. I’m sure one of the linux guru's here could write a script that could:
    1.. stop oscam
    2.. detect Smargo device location
3.. edit oscam.server to update device location
    4.. restart oscam..

Even with my limited linux knowledge I know this is not a very complicated script (for a linux expert) so hopefully someone with the know how will give us a dig out.. Or better still find a simple work around..

    Fingers crossed m8

Hi guys... My powered USB hub arrived today Battered & in pieces.. Go ebay, but still working.. When I rigged it up and switched my Smargo over to it, it worked but I was getting errors on oscam, It was telling me that card reader was not recognised at device 002:002. So I logged into server & ran lsusb, I found that the device was now listed as 002:006.

I made the changes in oscam, restarted oscam but same errors.. I decided to reboot and got same kind of error "card reader was not recognised at device 002:006", So I logged into server & ran lsusb, I found that the device was now listed as 002:005.. I decided to pull the plug as I could not afford more downtime..

I know there is an option to set the device as /dev/ttyUSB? instead of 002:002 format but I can’t find the page that mentioned the linux command that listed my device location in this format.. I don’t know if this will sort my problem but I think I read somewhere about this being a solution for a similar problem..

I found this post but its only for cccam
    http://linuxsat-support.com/li…-linux-receivers-pcs.html

Also, any testimonials for the reduction in ecm times after setting up powered hub for smargo? Is this hub worth the stress?

    Thanks guys.

Nice one mate.. I’m glad your sorted. As Ten said above, reserving IP address for the mac Address of your box was not 100% Necessary, but I find it handy when flashing new images and stuff, it just means you don’t have to set static IP Address every time you flash the box or turn on DHCP settings in the box because your router will automatically identify your box and assign your required IP address..

I see that Eircom put custom Firmware on these routers.. Are you with Eircom?

    http://screenshots.portforward…ircom/Port_Forwarding.jpg

If so, here are a few steps to try..

Firstly, set up a Static IP address for your DM800hd eg. 192.168.1.40
    http://screenshots.portforward…ircom/LAN_Client_List.jpg
From this screen, reserve 192.168.1.40 for your DM800hd. You can get the MAC Address from within the router settings.. Just look for LAN somewhere in your settings, then look for connected devices under DHCP Server.. There you will find your Mac address (If its connected to your network) copy and paste from there to the Mac address in screenshot above. You now have static address for your DM800hd..

Now go to Portforwarding section as shown below.
    http://screenshots.portforward…ircom/Port_Forwarding.jpg

Enter your DM800hd new static IP Address as the server address, click add. Now change the start port & end port to the port number you want to use.

    That should be it M8

Follow this guide here M8 but instead use your port number and dm800hd IP Address.
eg. Start port 11211, End Port 11211, IP Address 192.168.1.xxx

Port Forwarding pcAnywhere on the ZyXEL Prestige660HW-T1 - PortForward.com

Save these settings and restart the router (Necessary with some older routers)

I am not certain, (if I'm wrong someont will correct me) but I think forwarding on TCP alone will do for cccam? What exactly are you forwarding for? Is it to use ur DM800hd as a server for cccam?
