Cheers M8, Ill try that now.. Just another thing when Im off doing that on my server. I seen in some post somewhere on this site that I can log into my server from my desktop PC. This would be very handy for me now as I have set up my server directly wired to the router and every time I have to make changes, I have to use the main TV which is causing big problems with wifey & Kids.. Could you point me in the right direction for that? Im sure I have to sort out this network problem first though.. Thanks again M8..

After I edit & save the /etc/network/interfaces file, I try to restart networking. Here is what I get:
chris@debian:~$ su
Password:
root@debian:/home/chris# /etc/init.d/networking restart
Running /etc/init.d/networking restart is deprecated because it may not enable again some interfaces ... (warning).
Reconfiguring network interfaces...SIOCADDRT: No such process
Failed to bring up eth0.
done.
root@debian:/home/chris#Also, I dont know if this is relevant but I have a Static IP Address assigned from my ISP. Should that IP address be in this file or settings somewhere.
Thanks

Hello guys, I followed this tutorial to the letter but no Joy... I think I know why it's not happening but I have no idea how to sort it..
Firstly, I will explain my setup.
My new Debian server is not connected directly to the router. It is connected to My main PC which in turn connects to the router Via Wireless USB card. On my main PC (Which has Win 7), I use Internet Connection Sharing to share the internet with My Debian server vis LAN Cable. OK, I then move onto this part of the Tutorial:
Quote1. Log into your server as root user by opening the terminal & typing
suThen enter the root password you chose during Debian install
Now enter the following commands one at a time pressing enter after each
wget http://tiny.cc/ns80h
chmod 755 ns80h
./ns80h
The script will now do its work, it then requires user input for 4 questions
Q. IP Address of youserver?
Choose a static ip for your server e.g 192.168.1.99Q. Subnet Mask?
e.g 255.255.255.0Q. Gateway?
Here enter your routers ip addressQ. Dns servers ip?
Again here enter your routers ip addressThe install will now complete then you will be prompted to reboot
After I reboot, I have no Internet. The little icon up the top right for Network Status says "wired network not managed" or something like that when I hover over it. I think my problem is that this tutorial was set up for a debian server that was directly connected to the router whereas Im sharing a wireless connection as described above.
Here is some info that may help someone to suggest a fix..
The IP address i picked for My Linux server during this tutorial: 192.168.1.123
IP address of my Router: 192.168.0.1
IP Address of My desktop which I connect to for internet sharing 192.168.1.17
Also, My internet server provider gives me a static IP AddressThanks..

No Problem, I have a PC for viewing now, set up & working with DVB Viewer, but I also want a Dedicated card sharing server with nothing else on it. Do I not need a satellite feed going into a card sharing server? Probably not if it is only sharing the Sly card rights..

Ha, good point about the dm500, Thanks M8. I didnt know i could use a laptop, I just assumed I needed a DVBcard in the Server? I have a very high spec PC, would it be a bit too much to set up a Virtual Server within windows? I could easily Set it up with 4-8GB Ram & any size HD? I just want to get cracking on this asap and it could take a few days to get my hands on an old PC.. I wish I found this site last week and I'd have had it all done by now, lol

Just one more thing in relation to CS Server specification. Does the Server have to have a decent spec or am I ok with very basic PC. I’m looking to get a cheap workstation PC with 8GB Ram, something like a Dell Precision 390 with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz for about €100-€120. Will this be fast enough to process the shares for 4-5 houses and about 2-3 box's in each house? What is the limit of c-lines per card without slowing down signal or experiencing freezing? I have seen a few test c-lines that were very poor for freezing, presumably because there were too many shares for the host to handle. What is the MAX possible c-lines with the best possible Card sharing server setup.. thanks..

Yup will do, Thanks Sandman... Jeez I cant wait to set stuck into some of the tutorials here, What a site! After all my searching, Im finally home... Keep up the good work..

Hiding it from what? If you mean so nobody can find out the 192.168.xxx.xxx address then you need to setup NAT from your router...ie. request comes in to your DNS and your router points the request to your local server....having a secure listening port for your cam will ensure a more secure setup!
Well Id be worried about Sly getting hold of one of my c-lines, then surely, the game would be up...
QuoteNo...you can't 'unlock' the channels...you can of course receive entitlements from other peers but there is no hack to unlock per se! Entitlement updates are Sly checking your subscription and then refreshing your entitlements...its automatic these days if you use the likes of OScam
How do I receive entitlements from other peers? Is that done through cccam or is this saved to the card? Would that mean that I could have a Sly package with Movies, You could have a Sly package with Sports & we could share the Sports & Movies?

I am just beginning my setup of a free Cardsharing server for my friends & family. I have a few questions that i would appreciate some help with because I cannot clear up these if's & but's after 2 days of going through every card sharing forum on the net I have to just face it…. I’m Stuck
My setup now:
TBS 6984 PCI-E DVB-S2 Quad Tuner TV Card
DVB Software with Hadu & Acamd, working like a dream using test c-linesMy planned Setup:
Dedicated Linux PC Server
TBS 6984 PCI-E DVB-S2 Quad Tuner TV Card
USB Smargo Smartcard Reader Plus
Full Paid Subscription to a certain providerQuestions (Sorry if they seem too basic, but I am very confused from reading from 20-30 different sources over the last week)
1.. For starters, can i set up a card sharing server without a Dreambox? I have seen a few guides but they almost all mention the use of a Dreambox at some stage. I know my family will need a Dreambox or similar c-line capable box to share with my card, but do I need a Dreambox to set it up?
2.. Could someone please point me in the right direction for hiding my IP Address of my local Server.
3.. Do I need to purchase a Full Subscription to set up card sharing for the full service or can I do anything with the card? I have a basic white card at the moment, can I do anything to unlock channels through that or do I need the host card to have all the channels subscribed to? I have read about updating entitlements etc, (Is this just like activating the card or is it a bit darker)?
4.. If I get my family to spend money on these cccam box’s will I get at least a few years out of them or are the big providers clamping down? I don’t expect it to last for ever but from what I can see the only solution would be for the big providers to replace all the box’s out there at the moment and surely that’s a no go.
Thanks in advance to anybody who can shed a bit of light on this for me.
