I use the HDD for various things, like timeshift (handy if somebody interrupts you), downloading or recording something really great but also .kodi folder goes there, if you have a strong machine that can handle it. Imagine, you install one image on a multiboot STB (H7 or 9 Combo/Twin) and set up your Kodi properly and in the next image you install in the same machine with multiboot as soon as you install Kodi - it's all there, as they all use the same folder for settings, addons etc. Neat!

Picons go to USB stick and I transfer them, using FileZilla Client... The path to them is set by a little tool included in Setup > System > User Interface > Picon Path.

You could say these recommendations are just preferences but I would claim that logic dictates this structure...

    Try it and tell.... ;)

P.S. It is very important not to do a dirty umount of a device (PC or STB!)! Always use a device manager to correctly unmount a device first... :)

No, sorry, you must look a bit closer to a variety of (better) sources.

A number of us are always warning never to put picons, EPG, SWAP etc. to HDD.

Personally, I have never written about it in those terms...

Have a look here: Mounting devices/partitions in PurE2's Device Manager and which files to send where!

"Do not put picons, SWAP, cache, buffering etc. on devices with moving parts, like HDD. Make and/or direct them to USB sticks (they are cheap and fast nowadays). So:

-SWAP file, if you need it, is made on USB stick. (PurE2 has a SWAP Manager built-in but SWAP Manager 2 works better! You can download it from Plugins > Systemplugins.)

-Picons are kept on USB stick (picon folder is on media/usb/picon - Picon Path plugin is built into PurE2!)

    -EPG goes to USB stick > /media/usb (in MENU > Setup > System > EPG > EPG settinsg > button to the right > /media/usb > OK/save)

-Buffering for E2iPlayer goes to /media/usb/Buffer

-Cache for it also goes to USB stick: /media/usb/E2iP Cache

-Temporary data for E2iPlayer - I recommend /media/usb/Cache or make a folder for it /media/usb/tmp (the default one is limited and E2iPlayer is made to seek for 1,5GB of space).

-Downloads location for E2iPlayer should be /media/hdd.

-Recording and instant recording, plus Timeshift should go to HDD/SSD! Nothing else!

    -MENU > Setup > System > Recoding settings > /media/hdd/movie

    -MENU > Setup > System > Timeshift settings > /media/hdd/timeshift"

Probably, yes... I don't, as I don't need it (I'm OK with it populating as I am opening channels) - but I presume if you set it to 3 days download it should work fine with automatic save and refresh.

If you do set it up like that, though, I guess it should be saved on USB/SSD/mSD, since otherwise flash would be overwhelmed soon, as those packages can eat up both ROM and RAM... unless they are very big. But better not write onto ROM all the time, I suppose...

Post no. 324, seagen - I have said the same thing when it comes to raw power, it was a misunderstanding... and I put up the link to the correct STB, so as to remove any grounds for further misunderstanding (the 4K version of the box with a very similar name)... ;)

But when it comes to drivers for it... Oh, well... I can only go with reports we were getting, reading on forums etc. And they were not so good... Sorry but that has to be said... Even from their partners, like OpenPLi coders - lots and lots of criticism, not being responsive, not dealing with issues, ignoring reports and so on...That is a rational ground on which I object to their SW for those STBs...

Just to add: DuckTales Team was the one, to my "knolwedge", to develop an OS based in FFmpeg for SH4 boxes, rather than Gstreamer - and from that Alien1/2 got an E2 image by All Russian Project (ARP), then others have picked up on that, like SSS, who developed E2iPlayer with Exteplayer3 etc. Some developers connected to OpenPLi picked up on that and ServiceApp was created but not exactly the first ones to integrate FFmpeg etc. ;)

Sometimes in ServiceApp Exteplayer3 works better but sometimes it's GSTplayer...

But then again, are these "IPTV providers" setting everything up properly at their end?

For instance, EPG is being sent and how exactly etc. etc.? Too many users? Now that everyone is at home...

Or at user's end, using Picons, EPG, how exactly, where do you send them, do you have enough ROM & RAM for it etc.

There are many variables and one must go into details, as the Devil lies there... ;)

Ach, we are talking about this one: https://iptvhelpcenter.com/d/vu-zero-4k and I was thinking about the one with 750MHz dual thread processor...?? Misunderstanding...

Nevertheless, Multistream was working OK? We were getting reports of that function being not so OK on Vus, due to their drivers, whereas the same tuners were working properly in H7/51 OEMs...

On the other hand, I have to be consistent here: if I object to not adding support for avis etc. to other boxes, I must object to it in this one, too... A firm so big, with so many "experts" not being able to add it.... sorry, I don't buy it...

Btw, this Device Manager was improved by Dimitrij and I tested it for him, with OpenPLi and other images and it worked pretty well! Indispensable SW!

SWAP Manager did work but not in all images, I think... Good if you don't have enough RAM!

Flash Expander was OK with OpenPLi, earlier versions, at least...

EPG Import is not so HW-demanding and in general it worked but not brilliantly, sadly...

EPG and Picon Path Set plugins I got out of PBNIGMA and they work well in all machines and with all images I tested... Basically, if your image does not allow you to put them where you want them, not where coders think they must be - you can do it with them!

I only use PurE2 (before that PBNIGMA), however, when it comes to older boxes with very small flash then sometimes...

    Good luck!

That depends on the HW, kernel, drivers, manufacturer support more than anything... If an STB is weak, i.e. its processor is poor = hasn't enough computing power, doesn't have enough RAM, kernel is not great at managing RAM, drivers are not OK, codec is not supported on HW Level and the SW included in an image, you want to run VPN at the same time... then of course it's not OK...

Vu are well known for all kinds of problems of that kind and their team has exclusivity. So, then... We neither have the boxes, no support from the manufacturers, our coders are working in a blind mode... what can one expect?!? Frankly, if it were up to me, I would have stopped Vu support a long time ago, together with DMM!

OpenPLi is better for older, weaker machines because of things seagen mentioned. But when it comes to capable, versatile, modern images - I'm afraid if you want those, you better change that poor box of yours...

Zgemma H7 (and OEM boxes, like 51 lot), Zgemma H9 Combo and Twin and maybe a few others, which I do not have, so can't say for sure - but this is what you should buy. Sell yours to somebody whose needs and expectations are lower than yours and enjoy PurE2...
