  • Please help my momma - cheap box for remote channel management

    Octagon is a great box, with good blindscan, so no need to scrape websites, you can hardware scan the channels yourself, choosing FTA only as an option if required.

    We have various plugins to arrange channels into sorted lists or "bouquets" or you can even download channels list prepared by others.

    If you are already savvy with linux and networking ......you wont have any issues, welcome to the world of Enigma2 :beer1:

    Okay we get it, you like openTS image, you have posted it everywhere, that is great for you.

    Rather than posting a thread on what you like or don't like, be constructive and make a report to an image team with a debug log of what is wrong.

    i for one have no idea what your talking about, it may make a lot more sense to me if you posted a debug log, it may even be helpful.

    i have a ZGemma s2 stuck on boot, i can get into the box via Network on Pc and able to ssh but it will only flash with a Kingstone 1gb stick,
    i have log from dmesg

    ive tryed alsorts, and googled allsorts, im pretty clued up with linux and ssh commands, just wondering if anyone new a way of sorting it via ssh as flashing it not working,, all images have been originals aswell.

    This thread is now very old, i no longer have any Zgemma's..... and as a result my memory is not so good either !!

    Normally speaking if you have anything displayed on your TV (like the splash screen) your STB is not bricked - it is corrupted.

    A reflash of the bootloader, then a reflash of a clean image should fix the issue.......


    Reflashing the bootloader should reconfigure any bad blocks in the nand chip (unless it is the first block - then the chipset is useless)

    After that - flashing clean firmware should restore the STB back to normal.


    However if the flashing of the bootloader fails, and the STB is stuck on red light, and usb ports are dead, the only way to recover from that is via jtag.


    So take your time, ensure you are using a good name branded (not a cheap shit ) usb stick.

    Low level format the usb stick with each attempt of either bootloader or firmware .


    If that still fails.....

    Try with serial console to force erase and flash as described here:

    Try this:


    download any image and unzip it
    copy kernel.BIN and rootfs to root (/) of USB stick
    insert USB to tuner
    start CFE console
    flash new image

    Failing that....then you will need to go down the lines of jtag recovery, which must be done with a fresh windows XP install as described earlier.

    Is anything displayed on the TV when trying to boot ? If so your box is not bricked, it needs a clean reflash using a small (less than 8gb), good named branded usb stick.

    Low level format the USB stick and use the rear port to reflash without anything else connected other than power and the usb stick.

    Failing that, then this thread has instructions on how to flash via serial console.

    Failing that then you will need to recover via jtag., again it is covered in this thread.

    you could do that with a twin tuner - its basically 2 tuners that are independent of each other

    An FBC tuner is like 8 conventional tuners, so you could record 7 shows while watching an eighth


    a twin tuner would require a twin LNB and 2 sat cables, one to each tuner.

    An FBC tuner would require a unicable LNB and will run down just one cable.

    Just use it, there is no need to unpair it..... all your going to open is SD channels, which kind of makes it pointless taking out your sly STB.

    He doesn't have the box the card came from, and he wants sports and movies to open, which isn't possible because the card is paired and he has none of the boxes info.

    Ahh thats different...... perhaps this needs its own thread, i would be interested in what entitlement's are on the card and what dose open.

    I believe most peeps are buying them from German amazon......
