This is most probably a stupid question; but whilst watching ITV Player, B.S Bikes, paused the player, had to have a cup of coffee, came back and pressed play, nothing frozen?? Had to start from the beginning again. My question is:- Does this always happen? or is it because of my connection? ADSL download/upload average speeds, dwn, 11-13Mb/s upload, 1.3-1.7Mb/s copper wire connection, no fibre where I live. Yet. Using Ten Below Vix Image update 3.9.683 and TSPanel.

Thanks in advance for all advice/help given

Hi yesmate, I am new at this Linux Sat Receivers as well, and settled for a 500Gb Seagate 2.5 inch. Very very quiet and I was remarkably surprised at the cost. Also went for a 8Gb USB Flashdrive, small enough, as has been mentioned in another post, to keep plugged into one of the spare USB sockets at the back, handy for extra backup if needed. You will find a lot of help and information on this forum. Welcome. :shake:

I have backed up as told to. Feel a lot better now I watched live GP,. Didn't Cal Crutchlow do well? nearly second place, and well deserved. May I re-take this opportunity to thank everyone again for their help and guidance, especially stevejo.

    Many thanks

I use homeplugs, and now need a twin or triple because of the new sat box. Humax freeview is disconnected. Satellite is better though for somethings? I am using davolo and they do a triple in/out. If you can get a matched pair.

As a newbeee, into linux I can only suggest check out what is on the market, what exactly you intend to do with your final purchase and go for it. For a twin tuner the VU+Solo2, is my personal choice. Over the last 14-15 years, after deciding to ditch *** subscriptions, I have owned, Churchill, D2Mac, Echostar and Technomate. All at the time were right for me, and now the VU+ does what I am looking for in a satellite receiver. After all it is your choice and I am sure that support, from wherever forum/post you will find.

I would have to agree with the other supporters of the VU+ Solo2. I had my doubts at first when I first bought it but with all the feedback and help on this forum you can't wrong with a VU+. Use Vix, Ten Below backup is a work of art and seems to be written with Vu+ Solo2 in mind, I could be wrong??

I thought I should put some input into the forum; after all the help I have been given setting up my VU+ Solo2.

I hope this is of some help to anyone coming into Linux based receivers.

Sorry if it all looks a bit messy, but could never get to grips with typing.

MOST Important! when you are finished and everything works SAVE your settings

there's me giving toothfairy advice :bello: and lo and behold what happens, had a clear of pc desktop and binned my passwords folder! then yesterday had to rescue one of my cats, (got 4, 3 siamese and an oriental, which are known in my household as "sillymese's and ornamental") one was behind the unit where the sat, 5.2 amp and all that sort of gear, got stuck. what happens? lost everything on the vu+. started all over again but now back up and running, and better than before. i know this not the place but thanks again to Ten Below for his latest creation.

VU+ Solo2 is all up and running. Had a lot of help, (very new to this Linux) but the more I get into it the more I like it. Many thanks to stevejo for all his help and to the rest of the forum (posts, corrections and advice). I think I have now found a new hobby. Very much appreciated to you all. I know there is a lot to learn, but my advice to anyone that ventures into Linux World, to become a member of this Forum. :linuxsat5: stands head and shoulders above the rest.

Well done on creating a friendly and informative website. :caz:

who's stupid then?? cleared all/ most of the clutter from pc desktop and binned my 'passwords folder'. now i cannot get into my vu+, through dreamset or dcc. call me 'N*** N***, hostname of vu+ is 'vusolo2. when searching through DCC, the name is 'vusolo2.lan' so i have a few combinations to try. ihave tried root = name passwd = password, nope and so on and on. has anybody got any ideas. this reminds of several years ago forgetting my debit card pin and asking for a new pin number. anyway i digress from the matter in hand.

anybody please put my lights on again.

can i suggest you tick/dot 'router' and search for your router ip. i know i have a vu+solo2 but try to connect to your router from dreambox to pc/laptop. have you hard wired the router to dreambox?? with cat 5 or 6 cable??

It's not i didn't like it,(re-read my post) when trying to change the satellite in positioner setup, and tune, could move away from 19.2E, left or right. The misses didn't like the image anyway, (must keep her happy). I went back to Vix, no problems.

Thats it for now. had my hand held nearly all the way, (this is a whole new ball game, but i love it, like being back at work trying to find certain faults and getting there, glad it didn't take this long though) thanks to stevejo and many others for their help.

How far have you got?? I nearly despaired, (if this is your first time) keep at it, when things get a bit strangled, stop have a cup of coffee/tea glass of what you like and sit down and relax. I ended up using vu+ toolbox, (for loading C**** and stevejo helped me through that. Try different words/phrases if you are searching for guidance. I must have printed a couple of hundred. Put on the forum what settings you have inputted to the box and i'm sure someone will have an answer. i got my box 3 weeks ago and last night was the first time i could really relax.

keep at it, and put settings up on the forum.
