VU+ SOLO SE V2 help

  • Hello everyone

A short preface, I use a translator, so I hope my explanation is clear.

VU+ SOLO SE V2 with BlackHole image

While watching a satellite channel, it gave me a green error screen. I waited, and it rebooted. After a few minutes, the error screen appeared again. I waited for the system to reboot as before. I waited, but it took longer than usual. At this point, I decided (probably wrongly) to turn the VU+ off and on again using the rear button.

    The decoder doesn't start.

When I turn on the VU+ using the rear button, the decoder doesn't start. The front LED is on, and when I press the remote control buttons, it flashes. The two Ethernet port LEDs remain constantly on and don't turn off as they usually do during normal startup.

I tried flashing the BlackHole again, but the 2GB USB stick I usually use isn't receiving power; the LED doesn't light up, and there's no power on the two USB ports.

I measured the external power supply with a multimeter and got a reading of 12.36 volts at the output, so it's working. I also tried powering it with an old benchtop power supply, but the result was the same.

Looking at the receiver's motherboard, I don't see any obvious signs of a burned component; the only electrolytic capacitor is fine.

I searched online but found little, I read that it could be a problem with the NAND memory

Has anyone experienced this problem and can tell me how to fix it?

It's not always like this... it needs to be set under load, as cardiologists say. You can't know if it does the same thing on another box.

    1. A power supply isn't a huge purchase.

    2. This way you can be sure if it was the motherboard or the power supply.

NB: I tested it on a laptop. It worked because it required 3.5 amp hours, but if it requires 4.5 amp hours, like HP, it will never start.

  • I tested it on another Enigma decoder and it works perfectly. To eliminate any doubt, I used a benchtop power supply, setting the parameters of the original power supply, and even with that, the VU+ behaves the same way.

It doesn't start up, and the front LED and the Ethernet port LEDs remain on.

  • Ok...I think a clone software was previously sent to give you this problem.

    The only boxes,

    Vu Solo

    Vu SOLO2

    Vu Solo Mini

    Sunray

, were cloned software for these boxes, causing confusion and many of them ended up in the landfill. I've thrown away at least 10 or 15 since they came out. I had a software that made all these boxes original, but I lost the HDD with all the specific programs inside, and one of them would attach itself to the COM port, and when it started, when you turned on the box, rotating dashes would appear on the display. After it was finished, you could send any software you wanted, but now it doesn't, and the sub where I posted it is also closed.

NB: Only with a USB with an LED can you see if it reads the USB and see if it's possible to restore or build a JTAG.

Amps (3 Amp) are not Volts (12 Volts), so as the reply you got, I would try instead the other Enigma2 box PSU into your VU+ Solo SE.

Also try to install the VU+ Solo SE image from here, to see if you have good results, it could give you an hint, about where problem comes from, PSU, receiver or image/software, Be aware that not all Memory Flash sticks are compatible, always better to use lower than 2 Gb ones, formatted FAT.

  • The decoder is an original VU+.

The software was original. I've always used Black Hole for VU+ ONLY if it's V2.

Specifically, it was the latest version, Black Hole 3.1.0.

I've always used it that way.

I probably interrupted the boot by turning off the decoder using the rear button, which created the problem.

The power supply tested in the other box worked without any problems.

Tested on a Zgemma H9.2H SE.

So I've ruled out the power supply as the problem.

  • As I said, I can't restore factory settings, nor can I flash a new image because the VU+ won't boot.

Since I'm not running the initial bootloader, which is likely corrupted, the USB ports aren't powered by the system, and I can't load OpenPli, OpenATV, or any other image via USB stick like I've always done.

Can anyone tell me how I can run JTAG on the VU+ ONLY IF V2, and what I need?

    Vu+ SOLOSE V2

  • The JTAG (Joint Test Action Group) method is used on the VU+ Solo SE V2 to restore the set-top box’s bootloader (CFE) if it no longer starts up or is stuck in a ‘boot loop’ due to a faulty flash operation. Required hardware and software: To perform a recovery via JTAG, you will need the following components:

A serial cable (null modem cable) and a LAN cable for standard access.

A USB-to-UART/JTAG development board (the CY7C68013A EZ-USB FX2LP board is very commonly used).

The Broadband Studio 3 software (including the Broadcom BCM CPU drivers, e.g. bcm97346).

The correct CFE.bin (bootloader image) for the VU+ Solo SE V2.

    A Windows computer.
