  • Hi All

Basically i bought a amiko alien but as the end is nigh should i sell it now and purchase a IPTV box for around the 100 mark ?? Im just going to sell my amiko alien.

Just wondered if it was worth it as no one really knows how long standard channels will be around for and TBH the amiko is doing my head in as its really sluggish i press guide button and it comes on 15 seconds later.

  • The end has been nigh for 25 years or more and yes there was a lean time when all the encryptions changed and keys could no longer be extracted and here we are at another crossroads.

Even if Sly & HD goes there will still be plenty left to watch, especially if, like me next week, one goes motorized. I'd keep my box but the choice is yours of course.

Could always go back to Sly if your are rich enough to pay for endless repeats. :)

  • i have also thought about going down the iptv route and i have read lots of good reports from users of the vu and the mag 250 boxes, who now use streaming
most say it works first class and has good picture quality etc: my only concern is if we get the channels on paired boxes etc: and they are blocked to all except the official subscription way once it goes will the iptv be blocked as well, my reason for thinking this is most streaming is reported to be in SD, and i just wonder are the HD channels blocked on iptv, as the Italian HD channels are now via satellite
for this reason i'm going to stay with my vu and get the channels that way.

Even if i was rich enough i wouldnt give murdoch the sh*t off my shoe !! He moans to virmin to upgrade there encryption look how he earned at NOTW hes just as bad as pay server scum !!

  • Why not upgrade your box to a true E2 receiver which is capable of IPTV also... just in case the end is not as near as you think. That way you get the both of both worlds

wish i could upgrade mate, been on the bloody sick for 6 months due to IBD (inflamatory bowel disease) so funded my iptv box selling my amiko on ebay, end of the day the only channels im bothered about is sports f1 mainly as now football will be stopping until next season.

Hopefully when im back at work i can eventually upgrade to the box you was talking about, but is it worth it ?? i know the end as been nigh for along time but now all the channels will soon be took off probably more this week so would it be worth upgrading to a box worth around the 300 mark lol probably end up as doorstop like my old eurovox hahahahah, wicked mate ! :-)

  • clean it up , sell it on and save a few more bob for a decent E2 box which can play iptv/sat/cable/DTT ...
and get motorised ,,,, the end is/has always been the next step away for everything..
The main reason for lack of HD over net is the bad quality of broadband in general not just in Europe..
The rmain reason an E2 box is ideal is because it is mostly open source...
just look at the images/plugins available through 3rd parties who usually get more grief than thanks for their hard work in their free time...
Think about it... you buy a decent box and sub card and the rest is handed on a dish.....

Must be something wrong with your setup m8,epg and info button load in under a second on my Alien 2. Its a very slick receiver .
Where are you storing the epg ,make sure its not in internal flash .
You arent using multiquickbutton by any chance are you ,that can make the receiver unstable .

There is SuperIptv on the Spark side of the Alien 2 ,could be worth a look ?
I use iptv loader on Alien 2 ,handy for matches ,its well able to handle iptv streams.

I wouldnt say the support is that poor,a good few groups developing for it now and its a very slick and stable receiver .
Alot of good backup images out there now,Hyperion,HDMU,Ar-P,Open Pli.
Obviously not as much support as Vu receivers but a decent amount none the less ,alot more than other linux receivers.
