  • If you get a signal by pushing the dish to the right, what should you do?

  • The centre should always be the sat nearest your true south I think?

Its been a while since I set mine up.

I made sure the pole was perfect with a digital spirit level, trusted the maths, set everything OCD and it worked first time.

I have this one. Looks like there both from the same factory.

Here is one of the videos I used that helped me understand how to set it up.

  • I doubt it, you are still 20cm smaller than maximum dish size. which is probably another 10kg's in weight.

But if you started on 16e as your Zero point, then dish will be way over to the west when trying to get signal at 30w.

For me the motor should be on 0 when starting close to real due south, which is roughly the 0.8w satellite i suggested you begin with.

(introduction) I started following those who told me to start from the satellite closest to my longitude (16E) (to leave nothing to chance) since I had already started that way, trying to perfect the signal, I then went to 30W no signal, going to 42.0E no signal.

After having done many tests of signal arrangement at the extremes returning to 16e then 13e/ 7e 5w so on saying the signal was not good enough, so I started to follow your advice go to 0.8w which had a signal from 60 to 70% I started them to perfect the signal.

    As it was before: 0.8w with frequency (12034.0 MHz V 30000 3/4 8ps 0.8°w) the signal is: snr 67 agc 98 ber 0

    Now frequency: (12034.0 MHz V 30000 3/4 8ps 0.8°w) the signal is: snr 80agc 99 ber 0 (noticeable increase in signal)

  • Hello everyone, Panda555 is right, normally you have to see the basic setting with your longitude, for example at home for me it was around 6.80 est....so if it corresponds to an existing sat you take it, otherwise you choose closest .... for my part I took the sat turk at 7° east, it was the closest to my exact south ....

why is 16e not the closest satellite to me?

    my longitude is 17.

As I wrote in the previous post or left out my longitude and closest satellite and I did as I was advised by (jenseneverest) starting from 0.8w perfecting the satellite from there so currently I have found a significant improvement on the satellites

Is the anything blocking your line of sight to some satellites ? a tree or a house ?

I am glad things have improved, but if there trees or buildings in the way then they will need to be removed :winking face with tongue:

Also change your SNR to DB values, they mean far more to me

For comparison this is my signal using my 80cm dish - my line of sight is completely clear

The above are all using ceifps latest channel list - most are FTA or Biss channels

If your line of sight is clear you may need a few more tweak's to your setup.

Also how have you placed your LNB in the holder ? it should be on zero.

  • Is the anything blocking your line of sight to some satellites ? a tree or a house ?

yes, houses, the parabola is higher than the houses (you can raise it again if you want) currently from the roof the dish is at a height of 6 meters fixed to a wall approximately 4 meters above.

I am glad things have improved

me too a lot :smirking face:

  • Your dish isn't yet properly adjusted. Also your signal strength will be different then Jenseneverest who is in UK and you

in southern Italy. I will repeat once more , your central satellit is Eutelsat 16 E and when you find the best signals on some

frequencies ( see my post #39 ) then will be much better for other satellites in your range ( especially 30 W which is also important

for adjust). Why not try ?

After adjustment , what is the current signal strength on 19 , 16 and 13 E now ?

    • Official Post

looking at your signal above you must be very close to getting it spot on.

Now it would be best to only adjust on weak signals to see if you can get a slight improvement? you may not, particularly try on 7east

As the dish is above the roof line of the houses in your area it should be a clear line of sight, and okay.

After slight adjustment and no further improvement, then you could look at your LNB, some makes are better than others.

The length of satellite cable should not be more than 30meters, it should also be of a good quality.

To change your signal levels to DB -

menu-setup-usage and user interface-settings-show SNR as % instead of DB (not all stb support this function)

my 7 east dish, is a 1.2m channel master, so comparison would be a waste of time....

That dish with a blind scan finds 51 channels

attached is the sat.xml it just found

I have asked you before, why do you say 16 east is his central sat, central to what exactly ?

give me a reason for saying this so i may understand your thinking.

    Satellites Orbit The Equator

I apologise for those of you reading this blog is Australia, New Zealand or any of the other southern hemisphere nations as the title of this blog will be a misleading for you guys. The satellites that deliver telecoms, satellite TV & digital services are in geo-stationary orbit in space and orbit around the equator. They rotate at the same speed of the earth which is fortunate because if they didn't, you would either need to install some sort of satellite tracking system which would be very expensive in comparison to a standard satellite dish installation. For this reason when installing satellite dishes in the Northern Hemisphere the dish will always be directed south regardless of what satellite service you wish to receive and the azimuth and elevation adjusted depending on what service you wish to receive, the required satellite dish size may be different also. The same is true for English Sat, French Sat, Polish Sat etc.

    • Official Post

okay that kind of makes sense, it is the sort of thing i would have to see myself, i am still trying to get my head round it.

I keep forgetting the OP is not in the UK.

    EDIT

    viper82

    Sorry !!

The more i think about this, the more i am coming to the conclusion that panda and Chris230291 are correct.

As to how much difference it will make actually make, i am not sure, after all the motor is designed to pan the full arc, and the arc never changes.

From the map above then 16east is closest to your due south.

So if your up for messing about with your setup yet again, it would be interesting to see the results.

I will have to buy you a beer for your troubles !! :beer1:

  • Here are the steps I took.

    - Make sure pole is perfectly straight using digital level

    - Make sure the motor is perfectly centred (manually move to 0 using built in button, then hold reset)

    - Find my lat-lon as precise as possible (google maps etc)

    - Find my most south sat (in UK is 0.8W)

    - Using the table in the motor manual, set the bracket angle (once set we do not touch this again)

    - Using the manual, set the dish angle (the dish needs to be as square as possible to the motor)

    - Attach the assembly to the pole tight enough so it doesn't move by itself, but loose enough you can rotate around the pole

    - On receiver drive the motor to my most south sat (0.8W in UK)

    - Rotate assembly around the pole until I get the best signal and tighten the bolts

    - Fine tune dish elevation to maximize signal quality

    Done

If everything is right you will be on the arc.

If there is something you do not receive that you believe you should, you can fine tune the dish. But only tiniest adjustments else you are not aligned anymore.

    EDIT:

I should also add that you will need to configure your receiver for your location.

I use TVHeadend and I had to set my lat-lon and elevation. I imagine its very similar for E2.
